Position Summary:

Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experienced R.N. Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process.

Education:

Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.

B. Training and Experience:

1. Current BLS certification required.

2. Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire.

3. One year of RN experience in acute care setting preferred.

4. ACLS within one year of hire or transfer to department.

5. EKG course within one year of hire or transfer to department.

6. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer to department:

· Surgical conscience

· Moderate sedation

· Lab order entry

· Aseptic technique

· Cleaning of equipment and scopes

· Proper surgical attire

· Maintaining sterile field

· Skin preparation

· Documentation

· Patient positioning

· Implementing intra-procedure nursing care plan

· IV therapy

· Unit safety

· Body substance isolation

· Handling controlled substances

· Role in Code Blue

· Basic colonoscopy setup

· Basic EGD setup

· Basic ERCP setup

· Basic Esophageal Motility Studies

· Basic PEG setup

· Basic small bowel enteroscopy setup

· Basic Enterex procedure

· Trauma G.I. bleeder

· Trauma foreign body removal
