Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides leadership and supervision of daily nursing operations of the Behavioral Health department and assigned services and directs patient care units. Serves as a resource for evidence-based research, quality measurement and improvement, and education programs. Responsible for designing, developing, teaching, evaluating, and documenting outcomes of clinical and non-clinical training programs. Ensures the delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a manner reflective of the Medical Center’s mission, vision, values and beliefs. Possesses managerial and clinical skills appropriate to the scope of responsibility. Manages the cost center’s fiscal, material and human resources emphasizing staff retention strategies. Participates in department, division and organization-wide initiatives focusing on regulatory compliance and performance improvement. Maintains 24/7 accountability for the Behavioral Health Nursing Division.
Supervises Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute 38. Provides direct management of the Behavioral Health Float Pool and assistant nurse managers of the Division and other staff as assigned.
Provides leadership and change management support for developing and integrating processes, policies and procedures into units within Behavioral Health Services. Supports and contributes to regular dissemination of quality and performance data, provides analysis of data, and coordinates collaborative efforts around taking action toward improvement. Fosters a culture of standardization and evidence-based care. Participates in the execution of strategic
initiatives across all Behavioral Health Programs. Assists the Senior Director and Behavioral Health Leadership Team in accomplishment of objectives.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

5. *Leads quality improvement initiatives, maintaining documentation of charters, plans, progress reports, meeting minutes, data files, analyses, and improvement cycles.
6. Facilitates divisional quality committees in partnership with physician and administrative leaders, ensuring effective communication and follow through on improvement priorities.
7. Develops and delivers reports and recommendations for nursing and other stakeholders using evidence based practices, systems thinking, collaborative relationships, and iterative improvement methods.
8. Serves as a liaison between Continuous Improvement and Patient Care Services to support quality planning, analysis, improvement, and a culture of high reliability.
9. Partners with education teams as a subject matter expert to develop curricula that reflect current nursing practice trends, quality metrics, case reviews, and improvement findings.
10. Collaborates with clinical educators and leadership to ensure coordinated, high quality educational offerings for all team members.
11. Assists in developing and revising order sets, documentation tools, and evidence based protocols to strengthen clinical documentation, coding accuracy, and standardization of care.
12. Validates the accuracy of data submitted for regulatory reporting and supports compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards.
13. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize efficient, effective, patient centered care delivery.
14. Develops, implements, and evaluates adherence to organizational and service/unit standards of care, policies, and procedures.
15. Empowers and mentors staff to participate in nursing practice councils and quality initiatives; fosters a culture of continuous improvement and patient centered principles.
16. Ensures age specific, culturally sensitive, safe, clean, and customer focused patient care environments.
17. Develops and manages capital, operational, and human resource budgets based on strategic priorities, best practices, and organizational standards; analyzes and resolves variances.
18. Recruits, develops, and retains staff who demonstrate behaviors consistent with Bryan beliefs and Core Values; ensures effective orientation, ongoing development, competency assessment, and performance appraisal processes.
19. Provides timely, objective, and constructive coaching; ensures appropriate corrective actions when performance or safety issues arise.
20. Participates in product evaluation studies and contributes to decision making regarding clinical products and equipment.
21. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in the field of expertise.
22. Participates in and/or leads meetings, committees, strategic planning and lean projects as assigned.
23. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the position, including age-specific competencies, annual skill verification, and required certifications.
2. Knowledge of Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards relevant to the service area.
3. Knowledge of nursing and hospital systems, current health care trends, and evidence-based research.
4. Knowledge of behavior management, change theory, the nursing process, and quality improvement principles.
5. Knowledge of budget and financial management principles.
6. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing practice and the assigned service area.
7. Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to work functions.
8. Knowledge of data abstraction, data management, and statistical analysis, with the ability to prepare and maintain records and reports using a computer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required. Masters degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing experience required. Specialty certification preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Completion of the Bryan Health Improvement System training program within 1 year of hire required.
