Overview
Akumen is seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to support the security posture, authorization activities, and ongoing compliance requirements of a federal technology and data program. This role leads efforts to gather, organize, and maintain technical security information, coordinate across engineering and operations teams, and support continuous monitoring and cybersecurity risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and maintenance of security authorization artifacts and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with technical teams to assess vulnerabilities, remediation activities, and security controls.
- Support continuous monitoring, cybersecurity scanning, and risk management activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal cybersecurity, privacy, and cloud security requirements.
- Provide security guidance to program leadership and project teams supporting system authorization and sustainment.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in information security, cybersecurity, or information assurance.
- Demonstrated expertise in vulnerability management, cybersecurity scanning tools, and cloud-hosted security practices.
- Strong knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks, privacy requirements, and continuous monitoring practices.
- One or more relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, cloud security certification, CISSP, or CISM.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, or related field.
- Experience supporting federal ATO, RMF, or FISMA compliance activities.
- Experience securing cloud-based analytics, data, or application platforms.
- Strong familiarity with NIST security controls and security documentation packages.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering, operations, and compliance teams.
Clearance Requirement
Must possess an active Secret security clearance or higher, or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance or higher in accordance with contract requirements.
