About This Position

Registered Dietitian specializing in Pediatrics

    The Registered Dietitian (RD) will support pediatric outpatients referred by physicians, specialty pediatric providers, or other healthcare providers for nutrition-related problems for a variety of diagnoses, including chronic disease management and management of nutrition support. Special areas of interest will include pediatric gastroenterology and pediatric hematology/oncology. The RD is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team who serves as the patient’s nutrition advocate. The RD ensures that the patient’s nutrition needs are being met, including nutrition support (enteral or parenteral) initiation and/or management. Primary responsibilities include application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing evidence-based nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluating the patient’s progress, and communicating the nutrition care plan with other members of the care team. The nutrition assessment may include nutrition-focused physical exam, identification and documentation of malnutrition, and care plan development for pediatric outpatients. The RD works independently managing resources in a cost-effective manner, and participates in compliance and quality performance improvement, and serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns. The RD is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, is involved in education of physicians, residents, medical students, and other health professionals as requested via lectures and in-service opportunities and team conferences and contributes to the development and revision of organizational policies and guidelines. The RD maintains professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
Additional Requirements:

• Comprehensive knowledge, application of medical nutrition therapy, human behavior, and techniques for effecting behavior change. • Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition support services.

• Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening, and observations.

• Decision making, problem solving and collaboration.

• Excellent counseling skills and ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels.

• Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary team and support services.

• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, pubic, medical staff, and physicians.

• Ability to organize tasks and function independently.

• Ability to counsel and motivate others.

• General knowledge of nutrient analysis and Microsoft office.

Education

    Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or related field from a university accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Master’s degree preferred Pediatric outpatient experience preferred Completed an ACEND®-accredited supervised practice program/internship at a health-care facility
License, Certification, Registration:

    Registered Dietitian for 2 years or more preferred Indiana State License obtained within 6 months of hire
