Materials Clerk at Cates Control Systems, Inc. – Webster, Texas

Job Purpose:
The Materials & Shipping Clerk maintains a clean, organized inventory and shipping area while supporting production and ensuring accurate, damage-free shipments to meet customer demands.

Responsibilities:

Inventory & Materials

1. Ship and receive all materials for the facility.
2. Load and unload freight from carriers using pallet jack or forklift.
3. Maintain a clean and organized warehouse, inventory, and assembly area.
4. Issue parts from inventory to jobs and pull parts for job kits and subassemblies.
5. Return unused parts to inventory and ensure proper transactions in ERP.
6. Conduct cycle counts in coordination with the materials group.
7. Research and resolve inventory or job discrepancies.
8. Scan packing slips, job folders, and related documentation to the server.

Shipping & Outbound

1. Clean, prepare, and package control panels and materials to prevent shipping damage.
2. Vacuum and wipe down outgoing panels.
3. Take and upload digital photos of outgoing panels and loose items to correct project folders.
4. Verify all line items on sales orders prior to shipment.
5. Create and print carrier BOLs, labels, packing slips, and required shipment documentation.
6. Obtain shipment quotes (excluding UPS/FedEx as applicable).
7. Schedule LTL and local courier shipments.
8. Perform final quality checks and complete required check sheets before shipment.
9. Scan daily outbound shipment documentation to the server.
10. Disassemble and file job/panel paperwork electronically.
11. Perform scheduled maintenance on shipping equipment (InstaPak machine, saw, etc.).
12. Maintain general housekeeping, including trash and recycling removal.

· Efficiency and accuracy of material transactions

· Overall warehouse organization and cleanliness

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 1 year prior experience preferred

Soft Skills:

· Strong organizational skills

· Time management and multi-tasking ability

· Thoroughness and attention to detail

· Strong written and verbal communication

· Basic troubleshooting ability

Hard Skills:

· Basic computer skills

· Experience using ERP systems for inventory transactions

· Ability to operate or be trained on a forklift and pallet jack

· Ability to read a tape measure and operate basic shop tools (nail gun, chop saw)

· Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

· Ability to perform physical activities, including standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and handling materials
