About This Position

As the City’s newest Meter Technician I you will actively support and uphold the City’s stated mission and values. In this role, you’ll provide excellent customer service while reading water meters—both electronically and visually—and preparing accurate data for billing. You’ll use mobile devices and electronic radio transmitters (ERTs) to collect readings, apply collection settings, and complete work orders such as account turn-ons, turn-offs, check reads, lock-offs, and customer requests. You’ll also record observations in our billing system, communicate with customers about water usage, perform basic troubleshooting of water meters, and apply your electrical knowledge to keep operations running efficiently. POSTION RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Reads water meters (including reading meters electronically and visually) and preparing information for final upload into the system
  • Uses computer tablet/device and mobile radio collection device to obtain water meter readings for billing system
  • Apply established collection settings to electronic radio transmitters (ERTs) at water meters.
  • Carries out work orders (including account turn-ons, account turn-offs, check reads, lock-offs, customer requests, etc.)
  • Enters notes and observations into billing system work order software.
  • Communicate with customers regarding water usage and questions.
  • Basic troubleshooting of water meters
  • Basic electrical experience
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of computer experience, including use of a tablet/computer as regular part of job duties
  • Work history performing physical outdoor duties under adverse weather conditions.
  • Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
