Position Overview:
The controller is responsible for leading the accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and day-to-day finance operations of the organization. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial statements, general ledger activity, month-end and year-end close, audit support, budget preparation, and compliance with applicable accounting standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
The Controller serves as a key financial partner to the CFO and hospital leadership team, providing financial insight, operational support, and strong stewardship of hospital resources. This position requires a hands-on accounting leader with hospital or healthcare finance experience preferred, strong technical accounting skills, and the ability to translate financial information for clinical and non-financial leaders.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead all general accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
• Own the monthly and annual close processes, ensuring deadlines are met, and financial results are accurate and complete.
• Prepare, review, and distribute monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and management reports for organization leadership.
• Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, organizational policies, and applicable healthcare accounting requirements.
• Support the preparation of annual audited financial statements, cost reports, tax filings, and other required financial reports.
• Coordinate and support the annual operating and capital budget process in partnership with the CFO, department leaders, and executive leadership.
• Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, identifying key drivers of variances and recommending corrective actions.
• Assist department leaders in understanding financial results and developing action plans to improve performance.
• Establish, monitor, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, cash, revenue, expenses, fixed assets, and other key financial processes.
• Support compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, charity care, cost reporting, and other healthcare finance requirements as applicable.
• Identify control gaps, process risks, and opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff.
• Set clear expectations, establish department goals, monitor performance, and promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
• Partner collaboratively with revenue cycle, patient financial services, payroll, supply chain, reimbursement, compliance, operations, and clinical leadership.
• Serve as a primary liaison for external auditors and other external financial reviewers.
• Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to audit inquiries.
• Maintain documentation and records in accordance with organizational retention policies and regulatory expectations.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science or Associate of Applied Sciences in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and Finance.
Experience: Requires two to four years of healthcare accounting experience. PC knowledge a must.
Knowledge and Skills: Must be able to plan, manage and possess the technical and professional skills of system/procedures analysis, programming and hardware capabilities. Must possess a high level of problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management, both inside and outside the organization.
Preferred
Experience with the hardware and software used by the hospital is desirable.
