Area Superintendent

SAN ANTONIO, TX

POSITION SUMMARY

The Area Superintendent leads multi-project field operations within a defined geographic or operational area, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient execution across Street, Concrete, and/or Underground scopes. This role bridges daily production and company strategy by driving schedule adherence, technical excellence, workforce development, and EOS discipline. The Area Superintendent supervises Superintendents, partners with Project Managers and Safety, and serves as a primary field contact for clients and agencies.

YOUR ROLE

• Oversees multiple projects for spec compliance (TxDOT, COSA, project-specific) and workmanship quality.

• Validates complex layouts and elevations, ADA features, and phasing with Survey and Superintendents.

• Reviews critical path, sequencing, pour/trenching/paving plans; realigns resources to protect schedule.

• Troubleshoots conflicts such as drainage, utilities, and tolerances; approves field adjustments within authority.

• Audits QA/QC including compaction, finish, testing readiness, and final acceptance criteria.

• Guides means and methods for specialty operations such as large pours, deep trenching, or phased paving/night work.

• Mentors Superintendents and Senior Foremen.

• Leads lessons-learned and toolbox upskilling sessions focused on layout verification, production planning, and QA/QC.

• Owns area safety culture and verifies OSHA, COSA, and company policy compliance on every site.

• Conducts audits on trench, confined space, fall protection, and traffic control; leads corrective actions.

• Partners with Safety on incident investigations, trend analysis, and targeted retraining.

• Optimizes utilization and readiness of area equipment such as graders, curb machines, excavators, rollers, and screeds.

• Coordinates with Fleet, Yard, and Procurement for preventive maintenance and delivery staging.

• Monitors inventory, form systems, and high-demand materials to prevent shortages and idle time.

• Approves heavy-equipment staging, traffic control plans, and lifting or excavation readiness.

• Directly supervises Superintendents and sets clear performance expectations.

• Conducts one-on-ones and evaluations; partners with HR on hiring, promotions, and disciplinary documentation.

• Balances workloads across crews and resolves conflicts promptly and professionally.

• Models E-Z Bel values, communication standards, and leadership behaviors.

• Leads weekly Area L10 meetings and aligns Rocks, Scorecards, and IDS with divisional objectives.

• Reviews daily logs, production reports, redlines, and HCSS entries for accuracy.

• Reports area performance to the General Superintendent and recommends corrective action plans.

• Drives continuous improvement and adoption of standard work across projects.

• Serves as the primary field contact for inspectors, clients, and agencies within the area.

• Attends preconstruction, progress, and final walkthrough meetings and resolves issues with urgency.

• Ensures all sites present a professional image through signage, housekeeping, and traffic control.

• Builds strong client relationships and supports business development through consistent field performance.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 8–12+ years of total field leadership, including Superintendent-level responsibility with multi-crew or multi-project oversight.

• Strong command of TxDOT and COSA specifications, layout and elevation verification, ADA compliance, QA/QC, and testing fundamentals.

• OSHA 30 preferred; competent person in excavation/trenching preferred

• Proficiency with iPad and HCSS for time, quantities, and diaries; EOS familiarity required.

• Valid driver’s license; ability to work nights or weekends for phased or major operations.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary construction or construction management coursework preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is performed primarily in active construction environments and requires regular walking, standing, and movement across uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally climb, bend, or lift materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds. Vision and hearing must be adequate to identify hazards and communicate effectively with crews and equipment operators. The role requires daily use of PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, and boots, and involves exposure to weather, noise, dust, and traffic. Occasional extended hours, night work, or weekends may be required for critical operations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required.
