JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Assesses plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates individualized, professional patient care to adult patients within the Intensive/Progressive Care Unit (IPCU). Provides nursing care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives of the state Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, advanced clinical judgement, and critical thinking required to function on the unit and to respond to rapidly changing patient needs. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific appropriate treatment and care. Participates in patient education, discharge planning, quality improvement activities. Serves as nurse when assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire date. Must obtain NIHSS Stroke Certification within 90 days of hire date. Previous intensive care, progressive care, telemetry or emergency department nursing experience preferred.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to think critically and use the nursing process. Demonstrate competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, acute respiratory assessment, sepsis recognition, stroke assessment, emergency response, IV therapy, blood administration, medication management, and safe use of department specific equipment. Ability to organize and prioritize patient assignment and unit activities. Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills with multidisciplinary team members, ancillary departments and clinical areas, physicians, patients and family members.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials. Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, blood and body fluids, medical equipment, and physical demands associated with patient care.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and transfer and transport patients. Must be able to bend, stoop, push and pull, and respond rapidly to emergency situations. Walks and stands for most of the working day. Must possess visual, tactile and manual dexterity.
