Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for an Engineering Process Improvement Engineer to join our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia office.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead process improvement initiatives within the Engineering organization to enhance efficiency, consistency, and scalability across all product pillars.
- Drive the full implementation of internal part numbering systems across all product pillars, ensuring alignment and integration across key engineering and enterprise tools, including Altium, SolidWorks, PDM systems, and NetSuite, while leveraging each platform’s capabilities effectively.
- Develop and implement customer-facing part numbering strategies, ensuring clear alignment between internal systems and external stakeholder needs.
- Establish and maintain product baselining processes in collaboration with Configuration Management and the EMO, ensuring clear, controlled baselines for each manufacturable product.
- Collaborate with Configuration Management and Engineering to implement enhanced Engineering Change Request (ECR) workflows, ensuring proper categorization of existing ECRs and effective tracking of Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) to support future product redesign.
- Lead Engineering Management Office (EMO) process mapping initiatives to document, standardize, and optimize engineering workflows and governance structures.
- Analyze current engineering processes to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and risks; propose and implement data-driven improvements.
- Work closely with Systems Engineering to define, implement, and maintain Design Gates procedures, ensuring clear criteria, deliverables.
- Develop, release, and maintain engineering process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), process maps, and governance policies
- Ensure alignment of engineering processes with existing PDM systems, while preparing for future integration with tools such as JIRA and the planned PLM system rollout later in the year.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Management Office (EMO) to define and implement engineering dashboards within Jira, enabling visibility into resource loading and tracking of outstanding deliverables, with rollout planned for later in the year.
- Lead or participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for urgent engineering and product issues across all product pillars
- Support internal and external audits related to engineering processes, ensuring compliance with established standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
- 5–8 years of experience in engineering, process improvement, or engineering operations.
- Strong understanding of engineering workflows, product lifecycle management, and configuration control.
- Experience implementing and managing part numbering systems and product structures.
- Familiarity with Engineering Change Management processes (ECR/ECO).
- Experience with process mapping methodologies and tools (e.g., flowcharts, value stream mapping).
- Working knowledge of PDM/PLM systems and data management best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on process optimization.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Knowledge of industry standards related to configuration management and product lifecycle processes.
- Experience with stage-gate or gated development processes and design review governance.
- Experience with digital transformation initiatives within engineering organizations.
- Familiarity with ERP system integration with engineering data (e.g., part numbers, BOMs).
- Experience in highly regulated or complex engineering environments (e.g., marine, defense, or industrial systems).
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem-solving initiatives
- Certification or training in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) - Optional
