Job Description

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 5:00 pm

Job Summary:

The Outside Sales Representative establishes, maintains, and grows customer relationships across Superior's core operating area, selling concrete accessories, site and pipe products, waterworks, special services, equipment and supplies, equipment rentals, instrumentation, landscape products, and other Superior product and service lines. This role generates new business, services assigned accounts, and works closely with Sales Management and Product Managers to meet sales and profitability goals while delivering superior customer service.


Responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain, market, and sell concrete accessories, Products, Site & Pipe Products, Waterworks, Special Services, Equipment & Supplies, Equipment Rentals, Instrumentation, Landscape Products, and other products and services that Superior has available to sell.
  • Maintain and service assigned customers while also generating new business by obtaining new customers in the core operating area; new accounts require Sales Manager approval before official assignment or commissions become available.
  • Generate new business by building relationships with qualified contractors while maintaining a professional rapport with these customers.
  • Participate in product training with Product Managers and Vendors.
  • Become proficient at reading and interpreting project plans and specifications in order to become self-reliant in performing material quantity take-offs, preparing quotations in the company ERP system (Eclipse), and preparing product submittal data to the end user.
  • Complete an initial 3-4 week training period, including sessions with product managers, estimators, dispatchers, and yard personnel, time at the counters with Site Products, EQ&S and Rental items, and riding with existing outside sales personnel; take the lead on self-training and scheduling additional training on product lines, computer systems, and company/branch policies thereafter.
  • Conduct a daily review of all assigned customer Sales Orders to check for pricing, product, and quantity accuracy, ensuring profitability and confirming there will be no complications at the time of delivery, regardless of the order writer.
  • Ensure all Quotes and Job Bids are priced accurately and within the allowed and desired Gross Profit margins.
  • Work with the Sales Manager and Product Managers to develop and grow assigned accounts across Superior’s product, rental, and service offerings.
  • Work with all Division Managers to gain broader industry and product knowledge and understand their processes and capabilities.
  • Assist in promoting various specials or focused sales efforts.
  • Seek support as needed to build product knowledge and understanding of Superior procedures.
  • Make every effort to grow overall sales in product lines while maintaining maximum Gross Profit.
  • Attend and participate in Trade Shows and Sales Meetings when asked, with proper notice.
  • Maintain self-discipline in the field by aggressively calling on potential customers in all areas without the need for reminders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely call reports and customer activity in the company CRM system, including customer visits, opportunities, follow-ups, and other relevant sales activity.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and job queues from management and co-workers in a timely manner, and ensure all customers are responded to in an efficient, timely, professional, and respectful manner.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in business, construction management, or a related field is a plus
  • Previous experience in the construction industry is required.
  • Experience in a sales or customer service role is required. You should have a proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, build relationships, and address customer need
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage clients and build relationships. Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and tasks simultaneously
  • Familiarity with basic sales tools and CRM software is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Comfortable interacting with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and travel locally as required
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; must be able to operate a company vehicle.

Salary Range: $43,000-$47,000 annually + commissions
