Job Description

Automation Stack Owner

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Automation Stack Owner based in United States.

As an Automation Stack Owner, you will design and shape the workflow automation capabilities that help a mission-driven organization operate more efficiently.
You will identify opportunities to reduce repetitive manual work, improve consistency, and connect business processes across multiple platforms.
The role combines automation architecture, workflow design, lightweight integrations, and practical AI-enabled capabilities.
You will help establish reliable and maintainable automation practices while ensuring solutions align with governance and security expectations.
Beyond building automations yourself, you will recruit and guide a lean team capable of supporting the automation ecosystem over time.
You will work closely with technical and organizational leaders to prioritize high-value opportunities and translate operational challenges into scalable solutions.
This is an opportunity to apply your technology expertise to meaningful pro-bono work while helping build sustainable capabilities for the future.

Accountabilities
  • Define, architect, implement, and manage the automation stack using platforms such as Automation Anywhere, Google Apps Script, and other workflow-oriented tools and connectors.
  • Map key cross-functional workflows and identify opportunities to automate repetitive processes, improve consistency, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Design and implement workflow-level integrations across platforms such as Google Workspace, Salesforce, iCIMS, Jira, and similar systems without requiring traditional data engineering.
  • Incorporate built-in AI capabilities into workflows where they can provide practical value, including summarization, classification, routing, and sentiment-based automation.
  • Monitor automation performance, reliability, and clarity, proactively identifying issues and implementing sustainable fixes.
  • Partner with the TECH team to ensure automation solutions align with reference architecture, governance, security, and technical standards.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and lead a lean team responsible for automation design, development, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor contributors and establish consistent quality standards and development practices across automation initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures and recurring workflow issues while addressing root causes rather than relying on temporary fixes.
  • Document workflows, dependencies, integrations, triggers, and key design decisions to ensure transparency and shared understanding.
  • Establish lightweight governance practices that promote responsible, reliable, and maintainable use of automation and AI-assisted features.
  • Participate in virtual meetings and collaborate with leadership to identify, evaluate, and prioritize high-impact automation opportunities.
Requirements
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in a technology-related role.
  • Familiarity with workflow automation platforms such as Automation Anywhere, Google Apps Script, or comparable automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of workflow design, trigger-based automation, process orchestration, and lightweight API integrations.
  • Experience with scripting, workflow automation, or process engineering is preferred.
  • Curiosity or hands-on experience with AI-assisted automation capabilities, such as AI steps for summarization, classification, routing, or sentiment analysis.
  • Familiarity with business and operating platforms such as Google Workspace, Salesforce, iCIMS, Jira, or comparable tools.
  • Ability to translate operational requirements into practical, maintainable automation solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on identifying root causes and implementing long-term solutions.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and automation opportunities clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed or geographically dispersed teams is desirable.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, member-driven environment with a collaborative and mission-focused mindset.
  • Strong communication, mentoring, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • A willingness to contribute a minimum of 6 flexible hours per week.
  • Retired technology professionals, students, and other experienced professionals seeking meaningful pro-bono work are welcome to apply.
Benefits
  • Pro-bono, unpaid position offering the opportunity to contribute technology expertise to a meaningful social-impact mission.
  • Minimum six-month membership commitment with approximately 6 flexible hours per week.
  • Opportunity to design and architect an automation ecosystem from the ground up.
  • Hands-on experience with workflow automation, integrations, and practical AI-assisted automation capabilities.
  • Opportunity to recruit, mentor, and lead a lean technical team.
  • Flexible, remote, member-driven working environment.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with technical and organizational leaders on high-value operational initiatives.
  • Opportunity to apply professional technology expertise toward improving STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.
  • $100 refundable membership deposit, returned after six months of active membership; K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
