Operational Excellence & Safety Lead

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Location: Marion, IA

Travel: 20–40% (field/site visits)

Reports To: CEO

Job Summary

The Operational Excellence & Safety Lead is a high-impact, hands-on contributor responsible for strengthening safety execution, supporting employee development, and driving practical process improvements across the organization.

This role partners closely with operations, field teams, and leadership to execute and continuously improve safety programs, coordinate and support training initiatives, and document and enhance core business processes. In addition, this role supports key HR processes including onboarding, offboarding, payroll coordination, and benefits administration.

Duties & Responsibilities

**Safety Execution & Compliance**

  • Support and execute the company’s safety strategy in partnership with leadership
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EM385, and applicable standards
  • Conduct jobsite visits, audits, and inspections
  • Track and report safety metrics (TRIR, incidents, near misses)
  • Lead incident tracking and corrective action follow-up

**Training & Employee Development Support**

  • Coordinate training programs across field, shop, and office teams
  • Support onboarding programs to improve early success
  • Track training completion and effectiveness
  • Support internship and early-career programs

**Process Improvement & Operational Support**

  • Document SOPs across key workflows
  • Identify inefficiencies and support improvements
  • Assist with workflow mapping and bottlenecks
  • Support tool and system adoption

**HR Administration & Employee Lifecycle Support**

  • Support onboarding processes including new hire setup, orientation coordination, and early success tracking
  • Coordinate offboarding activities including exit checklists, documentation, and equipment recovery
  • Assist with payroll processes including timecard review, data coordination, and communication with payroll providers
  • Support benefits administration including enrollments, changes, and employee questions
  • Maintain accurate employee records and support HR compliance documentation

Improved safety reporting and audit completion rates

Reduction in repeat safety incidents

Increased training completion rates

Development of SOP documentation across operations

Accurate and timely payroll and benefits coordination support

Requirements:

Required Skills & Abilities

Strong organization, communication, and data analysis skills

Comfort working in both field and office environments

High learning agility and accountability mindset

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field

1–4 years relevant experience in safety, operations, training, or HR coordination
