Position Summary

The Department of Computer Science in the School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We welcome candidates in all areas of computing, particularly those with expertise in quantum computing, theory and algorithms, or cybersecurity.

UNM CS has 21 tenured and tenure-track faculty, including nine NSF CAREER Award recipients and one PECASE recipient. Two CAREER awards and the PECASE were received in the last three years. Our faculty lead three new School of Engineering centers: the National Security Engineering Center, the Center for Robotic Intelligent Systems with Trustworthy Autonomy, and the Center for Molecular Engineering and Computation; additionally, the newly appointed director of the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) is from CS. We maintain strong ties with several local institutions, including Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, the Quantum New Mexico Institute, the Santa Fe Institute, and the Air Force Research Laboratory.

UNM CS offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program and MS and PhD programs. Our faculty teach core courses, develop advanced offerings in their areas, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students for careers in industry, research, and academia. The department is housed in the LEED Gold-certified Farris Engineering Center, which brings Computer Science together with Chemical and Biological Engineering and Nuclear Engineering. The building includes computational laboratories, research rooms, and spaces for student study, meetings, and collaboration.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Must have completed a doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related area by their employment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated potential to establish a nationally visible research program.
Commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
Expertise in quantum computing, theory and algorithms, or cybersecurity.
Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the universitys mission to serve local and global communities.
