Job Description
Short- and Long-Term Contract Openings | Full-Time Days | Bethesda, Maryland
We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to provide patient care in an outpatient clinic at the NIH Clinical Center. Both short- and long-term contract opportunities are available, with the possibility of permanent full-time employment based on performance and continued staffing needs.
Available Schedules
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; or
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
40 hours per week
No weekends
Off on all federal holidays
Minimum Qualifications
Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
Current Basic Life Support certification
At least two years of strong, current acute-care medical-surgical nursing experience
Acute-care experience in a procedures area may qualify candidates for applicable openings
Excellent critical-thinking, clinical-assessment, and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with other healthcare providers
Effective English communication skills
Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status
Primary Responsibilities
Assess patients and provide direct nursing care in an outpatient clinical setting
Complete patient intake, medication reconciliation, focused assessments, and clinical screening
Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures
Perform pre- and post-procedure assessments when assigned
Monitor patient condition and promptly communicate significant findings
Administer medications and treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice
Review clinical information, laboratory results, and procedure requirements
Coordinate appointments, testing, treatments, referrals, and follow-up care
Educate patients and families regarding procedures, medications, discharge instructions, and continuing care
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, procedural teams, support personnel, and other healthcare professionals
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards
Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities
Float to another area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice
Additional Requirements
Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All required licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
