About the Role:
The EDM Programmer/Operator plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by programming and operating Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) to produce precision components according to engineering specifications. This position requires a deep understanding of EDM technology, including both wire EDM processes, to ensure high-quality and efficient production runs. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering and quality teams to interpret blueprints, select appropriate tooling, and optimize machining parameters. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are essential to troubleshoot machine issues and maintain tight tolerances. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to the company’s ability to deliver complex parts that meet stringent quality standards and customer requirements on schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Program EDM machines using CAD/CAM software to create precise machining instructions based on engineering drawings.
- Set up and operate wire EDM machines, including installing electrodes, workholding fixtures, and monitoring machining cycles.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of EDM equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications and document results.
- Collaborate with engineers and quality control personnel to resolve machining issues and implement process improvements.
- Maintain accurate production records, including machine logs, setup sheets, and quality reports.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain a positive and respectful attitude; cooperate with co-workers, management, internal and external customers, etc.
- Execute daily process improvement using lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Maintain work area by the use of 6S principals
- Work safely at all times and report any unsafe conditions or injuries to your supervisor or manager immediately
- Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

- Technical certification or associate degree in manufacturing technology or a related field preferred
- Experience with wire EDM processes preferred.
- Familiarity with CNC machining and general machining principles a plus.
- Knowledge of metallurgical properties and how they affect EDM machining a plus.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software relevant to EDM programming.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
- High level of accuracy
Education
- High school diploma or GED, and up to one year work experience preferred.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to utilize geometry to solve machining (i.e. engineering) problems.
Computer Skills
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
