Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Creative Lead (Social & UGC) based in Canada.
This is a creative leadership role focused on raising the quality and performance of high-volume short-form social content. You will act as the final creative eye across UGC ads, reviewing concepts, footage, edits, and finished assets before they reach clients. The role combines hands-on production knowledge with creative direction, quality control, and team development. You will help shape content designed to capture attention quickly and perform across platforms such as TikTok and Meta. You’ll work closely with editors, creative strategists, producers, and other creative professionals in a fast-moving remote environment. Beyond reviewing individual pieces, you’ll build systems, references, and creative standards that help an entire studio improve. This is an opportunity to influence creative culture while helping evolve a UGC-focused operation toward more elevated, social-first formats.
- Serve as the final creative quality gate by reviewing storyboards, raw footage when needed, and final edits before they are delivered to clients.
- Provide clear, specific, and actionable feedback when work does not meet the required creative standard, explaining what needs to change and why.
- Review post-production work and provide precise direction on pacing, cut points, text overlays, sound design, hooks, and other details that influence performance.
- Assess whether short-form content effectively captures attention in the opening seconds and provide feedback that editors can immediately translate into production changes.
- Review static assets, thumbnails, text treatments, and other visual elements with an understanding of how they perform on mobile screens.
- Review storyboards before production to identify concepts that may be difficult to execute, missing talent or set requirements, or inconsistencies between the brief and creative direction.
- Provide production teams with the creative context needed to capture versatile footage, including important angles, shots, and creative references.
- Periodically participate in studio shoots when creative stakes are high or new formats are being tested.
- Build and maintain creative example libraries, checklists, visual references, and “what good looks like” resources that help standardize and improve creative quality.
- Identify recurring creative and production issues, such as weak hooks, ineffective editing patterns, or repeated storyboard challenges, and address them systematically rather than on an individual-ad basis.
- Maintain a current understanding of TikTok, Meta, and emerging short-form platforms, identifying meaningful formats and trends worth exploring.
- Curate inspiration and share specific examples with the team, explaining the creative and production decisions that make the content effective.
- Provide creative feedback to strategists and scriptwriters to strengthen their creative judgment and help establish a shared understanding of quality.
- Lead creative review sessions and inspiration discussions that build a stronger creative culture and common language across the team.
- Approve the organization’s own social content and portfolio materials, ensuring they reflect the same creative standards applied to client work.
- Help define and document the creative point of view, format preferences, visual signatures, and distinctive characteristics of the studio’s work.
- 3–7 years of hands-on experience in video production, editing, content creation, or a creative role within a social-first agency, performance creative environment, or DTC brand.
- Demonstrated experience making content yourself rather than exclusively developing briefs or managing creative strategy.
- Strong, current understanding of short-form social content and the creative mechanics that drive attention and engagement on platforms such as TikTok and Meta.
- Ability to identify why an advertisement works or fails quickly and articulate specific creative decisions that could improve it.
- Practical video editing experience or sufficiently close collaboration with editors to confidently understand editing workflows, pacing, cuts, sound, text overlays, and post-production techniques.
- On-set or production experience that enables you to identify when a storyboard will not translate effectively into footage and recommend practical alternatives.
- Understanding of paid media and performance marketing metrics, with the ability to use performance insights to inform creative decisions.
- Strong ability to provide specific, timestamped, actionable, and producible creative feedback rather than vague or subjective direction.
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to deliver direct, honest feedback while maintaining strong relationships and creative confidence.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain creative rationale clearly to internal teams and clients when required.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high content volumes, short turnaround times, and evolving processes.
- Ability to operate effectively amid ambiguity and help build systems while simultaneously delivering work at scale.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong creative taste, curiosity, attention to detail, and genuine enthusiasm for the craft of short-form video.
- Ability to influence creative quality through expertise, mentorship, and standards rather than relying primarily on formal people management.
- Experience as a video editor, post-production lead, UGC/content creator, creative producer, social content lead, or in-house DTC creative is highly relevant.
- Fully remote work environment.
- Creative stipends supporting mental health, healthcare, and internet expenses.
- 21 days of paid time off.
- 7 paid sick days.
- Company-wide year-end closure of approximately two weeks.
- Maternity and paternity leave.
- Annual salary review.
- Long-service incentives beginning after 2 years.
- Opportunity to work on high-volume short-form creative for leading DTC brands.
- Exposure to diverse clients, formats, platforms, and performance-driven creative challenges.
- Opportunity to shape creative standards, systems, culture, and the evolution of a growing social-first studio.
- Collaborative environment with creative professionals working across multiple countries and time zones.
