Senior Clinical Project Manager, Phase

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Clinical Project Manager, Phase I based in United States .

The Senior Clinical Project Manager will lead the successful delivery of complex Phase I clinical research projects, ensuring studies are completed on time, within scope, budget, and quality expectations. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with global cross-functional teams, clients, and clinical experts while contributing to the advancement of innovative therapies. You will oversee project strategy, risk management, regulatory documentation, and operational execution within a dynamic clinical research environment. The ideal candidate combines strong project leadership skills with deep knowledge of clinical development and global trial requirements. This position is suited for an experienced clinical research professional who thrives in matrix organizations and enjoys mentoring teams while driving impactful healthcare outcomes.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior Clinical Project Manager, you will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of domestic, regional, and global Phase I clinical projects. You will act as a key point of contact for clients and internal teams, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and successful project outcomes.

  • Lead clinical project delivery by managing scope, timelines, budgets, resources, risks, and quality expectations.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, tracking progress and implementing corrective actions to address deviations.
  • Serve as a primary client contact, building strong relationships that support satisfaction, trust, and long-term partnerships.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams and facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve project risks, conflicts, and operational challenges proactively.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical research standards, including GCP, ICH guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budget tracking, cost awareness, and resource planning.
  • Support quality assurance activities by monitoring project performance indicators and ensuring deliverables meet expectations.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, regulatory data, and reporting materials with accuracy and consistency.
  • Mentor junior project team members and contribute to project management capability development.
  • Support talent development activities, including coaching, onboarding, performance feedback, and succession planning when applicable.
  • Contribute to business development activities through proposal support, client presentations, and operational expertise.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams to improve processes, strengthen project execution, and enhance operational performance.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced clinical research professional with strong Phase I project management expertise, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to lead complex global studies. You should have a strong understanding of clinical development processes and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

  • University or college degree in life sciences or a related healthcare discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of clinical research experience within a pharmaceutical company, biotechnology organization, or contract research environment.
  • At least 2 years of direct clinical project management responsibility.
  • Mandatory Phase I clinical trial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines and international regulatory requirements for clinical development programs.
  • Experience managing clinical projects within virtual and matrix-based environments.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, risk management, budgeting, and resource coordination.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead teams, motivate stakeholders, and encourage independent problem-solving.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to present to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency with project management and productivity tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and related systems.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
    • Advanced degree such as a Master’s degree.
    • PMP certification.
    • Biotechnology industry experience.
    • Fluency in Chinese/Mandarin.
