Job Description

Description:

Great SEC reporting starts with understanding the business behind the numbers. At MaxCyte, we're looking for someone who wants to know the story, not just report the results.

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you'll lead the external reporting process, provide technical accounting expertise, manage our SOX compliance program, and partner across the business to turn complex transactions and financial results into meaningful disclosures and practical accounting guidance.

This is an opportunity to go beyond the filings, build relationships across the organization, and make a meaningful impact on how MaxCyte reports, operates, and grows.

SEC Reporting

  • Lead the preparation and filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, registration statements, proxy statements, Section 16 filings, and related SEC disclosures.
  • Prepare financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, and other disclosures, including supporting schedules, checklists, and financial statement tie-outs.
  • Proactively monitor and assess SEC reporting requirements, including filer status, disclosure obligations, 8-K events, and regulatory changes.
  • Manage reporting timelines and deliverables, coordinate with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, investor relations, and audit firms, including inline XBRL tagging, validation, and EDGAR filing support.
  • Prepare and support financial reporting presentations and materials for the Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, modern tools/AI, and other scalable practices for the external reporting process.

Technical Accounting & Business Partnership

  • Provide technical accounting oversight, research complex U.S. GAAP matters, and prepare analyses and memoranda.
  • Monitor new accounting standards, assess their impact, and lead implementation efforts, including updates to accounting policies, controls, and procedures.
  • Oversee critical accounting estimates and key areas such as revenue recognition, equity transactions, stock-based compensation, and earnings per share.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting analyses for assigned accounting areas, including stock-based compensation, deferred revenue, and standalone selling price allocations.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee equity accounting, maintain supporting schedules, and coordinate stock plan administration, including semiannual ESPP offerings.
  • Coordinate income tax provisions and tax return processes with external tax advisors.
  • Partner with Commercial, Business Development, FP&A, Legal, and other internal stakeholders to understand business activity and operations, evaluate contracts and strategic initiatives, and provide clear, practical guidance on accounting implications.
  • Support acquisitions and other significant transactions, including related technical accounting analyses.

SOX Compliance & Audit

  • Manage the Company's SOX 404(a) program, including risk assessments, control documentation, and testing coordination, serving as the primary liaison with the outsourced internal audit provider.
  • Partner with process owners to remediate control deficiencies and risks, strengthen internal controls, and improve processes.
  • Support external auditors, prepare PBC requests, and address inquiries.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; active CPA required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or public-company financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience preparing SEC Forms 10-K and 10-Q, including financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, technical accounting, and SOX compliance.
  • Ability to independently research complex accounting matters, exercise sound judgment, and develop well-documented conclusions.
  • Strong financial writing and communication skills, business curiosity, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate complex accounting matters into practical, meaningful guidance for non-accountants.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and hands-on, with strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Advanced Excel skills, proficiency with financial reporting systems and 10-Q/10-K tools like Toppan Merrill Bridge.

MaxCyte offers a base salary, annual bonus, and equity. MaxCyte also offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance and generous time off.

MaxCyte is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, age, marital status, pregnancy, genetic information, or other legally protected status
