Purpose
The Interim Spa Director oversees the day-to-day operational and business functions of the spa. The role is responsible for driving revenue and profitability and for leading talent processes, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management. The position sets and maintains expectations for a positive, service-driven culture and ensures consistent execution of Woodhouse Spa standards. The role requires strong organization and accountability, with a clear understanding of the business’s financial drivers. The Interim Spa Director position represents Woodhouse as a luxury brand by maintaining a polished, professional presence and ensuring 5-star guest service in every interaction.
This is a temporary position. Continued employment beyond the temporary assignment is not guaranteed but may be considered based on organizational needs and available opportunities.
Responsibilities
Key expectations include meeting or exceeding key performance indicators (KPIs); ensuring strong facility and operational management; maintaining supplies and effective inventory controls; delivering exceptional guest satisfaction; and recruiting, training, coaching, and developing team members. The Interim Spa Director is accountable for upholding all Woodhouse Spa standards as outlined in the Operations Manual and strives daily to exceed guest expectations.
Role Specifications
- Manage and monitor all areas of spa operations to ensure compliance with policies and procedures outlined in the Woodhouse Spa Operations Manual.
- Accountability to the location’s P&L, including achievement of revenue targets and budgeted KPIs.
- Review daily reports to evaluate service and retail sales, average ticket, promotional performance, schedule utilization, and profitability; identify and act on opportunities daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Ensure the spa meets or exceeds performance goals for the location, departments, and individual contributors.
- Implement strategies and coaching initiatives to improve performance; monitor progress and communicate updates consistently.
- Model and reinforce exceptional customer service to drive guest satisfaction and retention.
- Follow up by phone with guests who leave negative reviews on Google, Yelp, or Birdeye within 24 hours to recover guest satisfaction and future patronage.
- Partner with department leads and Concierge to complete monthly inventory and submit product order requests.
- Place backbar and retail product orders based on approved requests and within the budget authorized by the VP of Operations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with product vendors to foster collaboration and mutual respect.
- Hold staff 1:1s and weekly meetings with the management team and department leads to align priorities and collaborate.
- Create and maintain the master schedule in partnership with the management team, department leads, and District Manager.
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) on a rotating basis, partnering with the management team to address call-outs and day-of scheduling needs.
- Coordinate training for in-spa operations, vendor product knowledge, and treatment protocols in partnership with department leads and the Director of Operations.
- Interview and onboard qualified candidates in partnership with Human Resources.
- Compile and deliver annual performance reviews for all direct reports in partnership with managers and department leads.
- Partner with the Corporate Field Marketing Manager on in-spa needs, coordination, and execution of campaign initiatives.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the specified dress code.
- Partner with the management team to address maintenance requests and solicit project quotes as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and local rules and regulations.
- Perform other projects, work, and activities as assigned to support optimal spa performance.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in spa, salon, hospitality, or luxury service environments, with full P&L responsibility.
- Proven track record of driving revenue growth, achieving or exceeding KPIs, and maintaining profitability through financial oversight, labor management, and expense control.
- Exceptional leadership skills with experience hiring, training, coaching, and developing high-performing teams while fostering a positive and service-driven culture.
- Strong business acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting analysis, and identifying opportunities to increase service sales, retail performance, and average ticket.
- Outstanding guest relations expertise with the ability to professionally resolve concerns and maintain brand reputation across public review platforms.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple operational priorities while maintaining luxury-level service standards.
- Experience overseeing inventory management, vendor partnerships, and operational compliance with state and local regulations.
- Strategic, analytical, and results-driven with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with corporate leadership, department leads, and cross-functional partners.
Organizational Relationships
This position reports directly to the District Manager, Corporate Spas.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 annually, commensurate on experience. This role is eligible for a competitive bonus. The bonus structure will be further clarified and discussed during the interview process. All bonuses are subject to board approval.
Work Schedule
This role requires availability to work a schedule that accommodates the needs of the business that could consist of days, evenings, and/or weekends.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role requires physical strength to stand on feet for long hours at a time and the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
