Job Description
Position Description: Construction Estimator – Netting Systems
Own the bid — find it, walk it, price it, win it. Job walks: MLB ballparks, championship golf courses, collegiate stadiums, landmark venues nationwide.
West Coast Netting, Inc. (WCN) is a family-owned specialty netting manufacturer and design-build contractor serving sports, civil, industrial, and federal markets since 1951. We are seeking a Construction Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and complete estimates for engineered netting systems, including sports and barrier netting, golf driving ranges as well as government and defense projects.
The Estimator owns the bid from discovery through handoff — identifying opportunities on plan rooms and bid platforms, reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, pricing materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors, and assembling professional proposals and quotations. This role works closely with the VP of Construction, project management, and manufacturing to ensure estimates reflect real-world means, methods, and site conditions.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor plan rooms and bid platforms (BidNet Direct, Dodge, SAM.gov, and similar) using WCN's keyword and CSI-section criteria to identify qualified bid opportunities.
• Review plans, specifications (CSI Master Format, including Divisions 11 68 00, 11 68 33, and 31 37 00), addenda, and contract documents to determine full scope of work, exclusions, and risks.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for netting systems, poles/structural supports, foundations, cable and hardware, and related site work.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing (crane, drilling, pipe piling, structural engineering, equipment rental) and maintain current unit cost data.
• Prepare complete cost estimates covering material, fabrication, labor, equipment, freight, travel/per diem, bonds, insurance, and overhead and profit.
• Assemble and deliver professional proposals, quotations, and cost breakdowns using WCN branded templates and formats.
• Prepare multi-year and escalated pricing options for owners and general contractors when requested.
• Support change order pricing, time-and-material tickets, and cost recovery documentation on active projects.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks; document site conditions, access constraints, and equipment requirements.
• Coordinate with manufacturing on net panel fabrication requirements, lead times, and material specifications.
• Participate in bid/no-bid decisions and post-bid reviews; track win/loss results and refine pricing accordingly.
• Support handoff of awarded projects to project management, including scope review, budget setup, and buyout.
Qualifications
Required:
•2+ years of construction estimating experience (specialty contracting, structural, sitework, or related trades).
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; comfortable building and maintaining cost breakdown workbooks.
• Strong math skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple concurrent bids and deadlines.
• Professional written and verbal communication with owners, architects, engineers, and general contractors.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred:
• Experience with netting systems, fencing, rigging, poles/foundations, or similar specialty structural work.
• Familiarity with CSI Master Format specifications and public works / prevailing wage bidding.
• Experience with federal contracting (SAM.gov, capability statements, DoD or municipal procurement).
• Knowledge of plan-room and bid discovery platforms (BidNet Direct, Dodge Construction Network, PlanetBids, or similar).
• Degree or coursework in construction management, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
• Primarily office-based in Kingman, AZ, with periodic travel to job walks and project sites in Arizona, California, Nevada, and surrounding states.
• Site visits may involve walking uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather, and use of standard PPE.
• Occasional extended hours to meet bid deadlines.
