JOB SUMMARY:
Perform routine inspections of school buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair by making notes and recommendations using a pre-established checklist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
- Perform minor electrical maintenance to include, but not limited to, replacement and repair of fixtures (i.e. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, etc.
- Perform minor plumbing maintenance (i.e. replacement/repair of leaks in faucets and drains, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices.
- Perform minor carpentry and masonry work (i.e. preparing surfaces for painting, staining, and varnishing, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.
- Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures (i.e. walls, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc. to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion using various painting equipment and related tools (i.e. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinner, etc.)
- Replace/Update inoperable or old building and materials and appliances (i.e. window glass, sinks, doors, smoke alarms, cabinets, shelves, tile, light fixtures, filters, etc.) using various tools and materials (i.e. welding equipment, ladders, power saws, hammer, drills, etc.)
- Ability to estimate repair cost.
- Perform general cleaning of buildings or properties as needed.
- Record type and cost of maintenance/repair work.
- Schedule work requests from sites as needed without interrupting classes in session.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
(KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE):
- At least two (2) years’ experience/education in any combination of related education and apprentice, trades helper or equivalent experience in building construction, maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of machines and tools.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, contractors and vendors to obtain and provide useful information.
- Follow standards in working with multiple services, tools and equipment.
- Follow orders and complete work assignments with minimal supervision.
- Apply methods, practices and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, renovation and minor construction of buildings and utilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Driver's License, copy of DMV report, and insurance coverage
- Must pass Department of Justice background check prior to start of employment.
- Must have verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment, to be renewed every four years (every 4 years for chest x-rays).
- Must pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire, to be renewed every four (4) years.
- Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually that builds the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities of staff to improve child, family, and staff outcomes. Of this, a minimum of 50% of the 15 hours (or 7.5 hours) must be focused on the specific content area or job assignment. Must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) to be reviewed three (3) times during the year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically an office environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment.
- T.B. Test within the past year prior to employment, and every four (4) years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest X-ray).

- Representative physical demands of the job include: normal vision and hearing, standing for extended periods, sitting for extended periods, kneeling and stooping, manipulating objects with hands, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Influenza.
- COVID vaccination required; must have two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those that need a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately.
