Position: Director of Events and Museum Rentals

Position Summary:
The Director of Events and Museum Rentals manages all internal and external events for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). This highly motivated professional independently oversees budgeting, accounting, client engagement, vendor coordination, and post-event evaluation. The Director cultivates relationships with local, state, federal agencies, and private organizations to promote museum rentals and national appreciation events. This role requires effective teamwork while achieving organizational goals and revenue targets.
Responsibilities:
- Plans and produces all NLEOMF-hosted annual events, including National Police Week and Police Weekend.
- Develops comprehensive project timelines and ensures adherence to established deadlines.
- Establishes and nurtures strategic partnerships with local, state, and federal government agencies to support mission-aligned events and rental objectives.
- Arranges and conducts pre-event meetings with clients to ensure a thorough understanding of event logistics and expectations.
- Independently manages all aspects of event execution, including setup, audiovisual coordination, registration, volunteer oversight, catering, and on-site client services.
- Maintains and regularly updates the events tracking spreadsheet for executive review.
- Prepares detailed post-event reports for the Chief Operating Officer, highlighting successes, lessons learned, and recommendations for future improvements.
- Oversees the events section of the organization’s website to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Manages multi-functional responsibilities, including budgeting, financial reconciliation, vendor relations, and reporting with limited supervision.
- Drives event-related revenue growth and service innovation through strategic planning and effective collaboration with a lean internal team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in event management, public administration, communications, or a related field; equivalent education and experience considered.
- Minimum 7 years of responsible event planning experience, preferably in nonprofit or governmental settings.
- Experience coordinating with federal, state, or local agencies, and knowledge of public sector protocols.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Strong fiscal management skills, including budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing executive-level briefings and reports.
- Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government officials and corporate partners.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, event management software, and online registration platforms.
- Able to lead and execute projects with minimal oversight while maintaining collaborative relationships across departments.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to high standards of quality.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work on-site during evenings and weekends to support and manage event execution, including high-profile engagements involving law enforcement and government officials.
- Hybrid work environment with standard office and home-office settings; travel within the Washington, D.C. area may be required for event preparation and partner engagement.
- Peak workload is expected during major annual events, such as National Police Week and Police Weekend, which require extended hours and proactive time management.
- Must be physically capable of lifting to 35 lbs., standing for prolonged periods, and walking long distances during event setup and execution.
- The position is based in Washington, D.C., with regular responsibilities at the Museum and Memorial sites.
