Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a qualified, EEG Technician in Somerville, NJ. This position will perform EEG tests when requested by a physician. As part of the testing process, an EEG tech will gather a patient's medical history, explain testing procedures, and prepare the patient for the procedure. During testing, the EEG technician monitors the patient's status and notes any abnormalities. After testing is complete, they report their findings to the patient's doctor for further analysis.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Board Registered Neuro Diagnostic Technician
  • One year minimum

Preferred:

  • ABRET certification preferred

  • Day Shift
  • Per Diem Schedule

Essential Functions:

  • Precisely places electrodes in measured positions of International 10–20 System and documents/diagrams any deviation from standard. Applies electrodes securely, using appropriate adhesive for situation. Determines the need for additional EEG or physiological monitors and applies accurately.
  • Verifies acceptable electrode impedances based on facility policy and procedures.
  • Calibrates, evaluates, and, if necessary, adjusts the instruments to proper technical standards in order to obtain top-quality recordings.
  • Utilizes appropriate montages based on patient’s age, medical condition, complaints, expected/recognized abnormalities, and facility policy and procedures.
  • Performs appropriate activation techniques based on patient’s age, medical condition and complaints.
  • Monitors patient throughout procedure utilizing effective methods to improve patient cooperation/relaxation.
  • Monitors recording for artifact and takes appropriate action to identify and eliminate/monitor artifacts.
  • Obtains technically acceptable recording of adequate duration according to facility policy and procedures, including video component if required.
  • Understands technical criteria for performing special EEG procedures (electrocerebral inactivity, neonatal, pediatric, ICU).
  • Demonstrates good working knowledge of functional neuroanatomy and physiology, neurological disorders, and the International Classification of Seizures
  • Removes all adhesive/conductive material from the patient. Appropriately cleans, disinfects, or discards electrodes /sensors following the procedure.
