Position Summary
The Caretaking & Cleaning Technician supports the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of Memorial Park’s facilities, amenities, and public-use areas by performing daily field-based caretaking and cleaning activities. This role executes established custodial and park cleanliness standards and contributes to safe, welcoming park environments for visitors.
This role reports to Caretaking & Cleaning Supervisor and works under the daily direction of Caretaking & Cleaning Coordinators.
- Work Location: On-site at Memorial Park
- Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday with alternate hours based on workday. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday 5:30am-2:00pm; Thursday and Friday 10:30am-7:00pm.
- Employment Status: Full-Time
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Key Responsibilities
Caretaking & Cleaning Operations
- Perform caretaking and cleaning maintenance activities including restroom and facility cleaning, waste and recycling collection, litter removal, trail and pathway upkeep, and maintenance of park amenities.
- Maintain cleanliness of public areas including trails, pathways, pavilions, picnic areas, and other park facilities, including servicing trash receptacles and removing debris.
- Support routine and field-based inspections of park amenities, facilities, and public areas to identify maintenance needs and ensure cleanliness and safety standards.
- Operate cleaning equipment, tools, and park vehicles required to perform assigned tasks.
- Assist with general park operations support tasks including debris removal, material handling, and worksite cleanup as directed.
- Document maintenance activities and complete assigned work orders using established tracking systems.
- Monitor site conditions and proactively identify and report issues related to infrastructure, furnishings, safety hazards, or visitor experience to support timely response and safe park operations.
- Maintain strong situational awareness in the field by recognizing and escalating emerging issues (e.g., infrastructure concerns, facility conditions, sanitation concerns, equipment issues, or site damage) to support timely response and maintenance planning.
Team Support
- Work collaboratively to complete assigned daily and seasonal tasks.
- Follow direction from Coordinators and Supervisor to ensure efficient workflow.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, challenges, and field conditions.
- Support volunteer activities and special events as needed.
Safety & Operational Standards
- Interact with park visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Comply with safety policies and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely in accordance with established procedures and industry standards.
- Maintain assigned tools and equipment in safe working conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) or more years of professional experience in park operations, custodial operations, facilities maintenance, landscaping, or related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of custodial operations, public facility care, and park cleanliness standards.
- Experience safely operating operational tools, small equipment, and park vehicles.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions.
- Basic proficiency with email and digital communication tools.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Capacity to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and stand for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a repetitive basis.
- Safely operate motorized vehicles and power equipment.
- Work safely in high-traffic public environments.
- Perform work at heights following required safety training.
