About This Position
Statement of Purpose:
To perform a variety of cleaning tasks to maintain the Hospital in a sanitary, orderly and attractive condition.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Dusts, scrubs, wet and dry mops, waxes and buffs floors, using appropriate equipment and supplies. Must be capable of operating Environmental Services power equipment including the automatic floor scrubber, scrubbing buffers, high speed burnishing machines, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractor, etc.
2. Cleans and washes walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, floor coverings, fixtures, bath and restrooms, using appropriate solutions; replenishes supplies as needed; follows established aseptic techniques. Empties and cleans waste baskets and linen carts; relines containers with proper liners.
- Maintains equipment in good condition; reports mechanical failures or repairs needed in buildings or equipment.
- Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work area.
- When Staffing needs dictate, may be scheduled to work an alternate shift.
EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: One month.
CONTACTS: Regular contact with patients, visitors and employees of various departments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands, walks and bends most of the day; lifts and carries equipment and supplies of various weight in accordance with OSHA recommendations and restrictions.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works in well-lighted, well-vented, heated areas. Exposed to hazards associated with medical/infectious waste, cleaning chemicals and harsh detergent solutions, dust, dirt and unpleasant odors. Observes and follows standard precautions for infection/cross infection control as established by the Hospital Infection Control Committee. Must be available to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to accept infrequent overtime assignments as needed.
