About This Position
- Bachelor's degree in a regionally accredited institution.
- Five or more years of successful business experience in an ownership or executive management capacity.
- Knowledge of Columbus County (geographic, economic, workforce, etc).
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Business ownership experience.
- Two years of experience in business consulting and/or counseling.
Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President of Education & Training, the Director of the Small Business Center is responsible for the operation of the Small Business Center and its related programs and projects. To fulfill the objectives of this position, the Director of Small Business Center performs the following functions.
Essential Duties:
- Directs the activities of the Small Business Center at Southeastern Community College to comply with the Small Business Center Network Operations Manual.
- Establishes and maintains personal contact with small business owners.
- Links the Small Business Center (SBC) business plan with the long term SBCN goals as well as the college’s mission and strategic plan.
- Identify the needs of prospective entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, and small businesses and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Directs one-on-one counseling to existing and prospective small business owners and, if needed, makes appropriate referrals to resource agencies and/or individuals.
- Establishes and maintains partnerships with local, regional, and state funding sources for entrepreneurship development.
- Prepares and manages the Small Business Center operational budget.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of Small Business Center activities through participant feedback and adjust accordingly.
- Develops promotional and marketing plans for the Small Business Center.
- Maintains strong visibility within Columbus County's small business community.
- Establishes and maintains a local SBC Advisory Committee.
- Supervises SBC training activities, instructors, presenters, and staff.
- Prepares the SBC Annual Program Report, which is due each year by July 31.
- Serves on college committees and participates in college activities.
- Performs any other duties as deemed necessary.

- Deliver outstanding customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with colleagues and community partners.
- Ability to lead strategic initiatives by anticipating change and implementing timely, effective responses.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A completed Southeastern Community College application (located on the SCC website), a resume, a letter of interest addressing the requirements, and educational transcripts (unofficial copies of transcripts will be sufficient for the screening process, but official copies must be submitted prior to employment) must be submitted to the college Human Resources Office in order for applicants to be considered for this position.
