About This Position
Title: Nurse Practitioner CTICU
Shift: Days/Nights (Rotations)
Reporting to: JCMC Lead CTS NP, NBI Lead CTS NP, Director of CTICU Intensivists JCMC, Cardiac Surgery Chief
Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods set forth by the cardiac surgeon and the Cardiac Intensivists. The NP is responsible for ICU and step-down coverage. As well as, providing cardiac surgery/critical care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients for hospitalized and outpatient Cardiac Surgery patients
Essential Functions
- Perform clinical tasks on the patient unit such as removal of chest tubes, sutures, and temporary pacing wires as directed by the CTS surgeons
- See patients in the pre and post op stage of care in the clinic as well as be responsible for inpatient consults and CTS patients in the stepdown and CTICU unit
- Responsible for transfer and discharge paperwork, discharge summary, and to communicate with cardiologist/PCP when appropriate
- Emphasis is on direct patient care, working in coordination with the staff surgeon, house staff, hospital staff, and the patient
- Participates in patient rounds and case conferences
- Works in collaboration with staff surgeon and house staff in educating the patients and their families in medical care
- Evaluation and treatment of cardiac surgery patients through the pre-and post-operative period.
- Examining and evaluation of patients daily.
- Review of medications and radiology.
- Ordering tests as appropriate.
- Documentation for all services rendered including daily progress notes and event notes.

- Emphasis is on direct patient care, working in coordination with the staff surgeon, house staff, hospital staff, and the patient.
- Continually updates clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, formal and informal education, and review of literature for self.
Job Requirements
Master’s degree in Nursing
Certification in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Active license in the state of NJ
BLS certification
1-2 Years’ experience in open heart surgery critical care preferred.
