About This Position

Consejo Counseling and Referral Service, a not-for-profit organization, is hiring a full-time Accounting 1 for our Renton, WA location.

Summary of Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Accountant 2, the Accountant 1 role is responsible for performing foundational accounting functions and maintaining accurate financial records. This role supports daily transactions, assists with reconciliations, and works closely with the Grants Team to ensure compliance with funder requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform day‑to‑day accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and journal entries
• Complete the general ledger, including account analysis and make corrections as appropriate
• Conduct month‑end close procedures and complete monthly reconciliations, ensuring subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules are completed in a timely manner
• Implement and maintain accounting systems and software upgrades
• Organize and maintain accurate financial records and filing systems, including scanning and distributing documentation
• Monitor, ensure compliance, and track account activity to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and internal controls to increase efficiency
• Verify expenditures and support financial reporting with the Grants Team and Program Managers
• Prepare schedules for audits and the annual budget
• Prepare and submit required state and local tax filings, including sales/use tax, business and occupation tax, and other jurisdictional reports as required by law
• Supervise staff and interns as assigned
• Complete accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, collections follow-up, and resolving billing discrepancies
• Process cash receipts and third-party reimbursements; accurately post and reconcile transactions to client and GL accounts
• Audit submitted receipts and documentation for validity, correct coding, and appropriate business purpose
• Review and process employee expense reimbursements and credit card expenditures ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper approval
• Verify compliance of all expenses with organizational policies, IRS guidelines, and funder or grant requirements
• Provide guidance to employees on proper submission of expense reports and required documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field required
• Demonstrated experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Ability to prioritize, organize workflows and juggle conflicting demands while completing daily tasks
• Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple software platforms

WORK SCHEDULE
This full-time, position works from Monday to Friday.

SALARY

$70,000 to $80,000 annual salary. Pay will depend on experience, qualifications, and credentials.
