The Coder/Abstractor - Outpatient is responsible for performing assigned duties in accordance with NRHN policies, procedures, and standards of care while supporting the organization’s mission, values, and commitment to quality outcomes.
Essential Responsibilities
- To provide assistance in development, maintenance, and timely collection of patient information to enable patient billing process to occur and to generate patient/provider statistics.
- Accurately assigns ICD-10-CM coding of patient diagnostic and procedural information upon admission of the patient in accordance with established coding guidelines, principles, and conventions.
- Responsible for identifying and assigning ICD-10-CM codes to principal and secondary diagnosis on all patients upon admission and for discharged outpatients.
- Abstract ICD 10 codes coding into the hospital computer system to allow billing to occur. Adhere to regulatory requirement for coding/reimbursement.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate.
- Good organizational and communications skills.
- Experience in Medical Records Department or related medical office.
- Coding Certification Coding experience using ICD-10-CM and ICD- 10 -PC in an acute care, rehabilitation hospital, or outpatient clinical setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer data entry and patient information abstracting systems.
- Must have excellent knowledge of medical terminology and working knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology
- Able to work with or willing to learn to work within a paper or electronic medical record.
