Resident Teaching Artist in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Project Home

As a Resident Teaching Artist, you'll help create meaningful opportunities for artistic expression, skill development, and community engagement among Project HOME residents.

In this role, you'll facilitate weekly art classes, support public art exhibitions, and assist residents in participating in community art events and sales opportunities. You'll work closely with the Art Program Coordinator to develop engaging programming that celebrates creativity while fostering confidence, connection, and personal growth.

This is a supportive employment position intended for current Project HOME residents. Following one year in the role, a new Resident Art Instructor will be recruited, allowing additional residents the opportunity for professional development and leadership experience.

• Location: Honickman Learning Center - 1936 N. Judon St. 19121
• Schedule: Part-Time | 4 hours per week, between Monday and Friday 12:00PM and 6:00PM
• Compensation: $16.00/hour
• Eligibility: Must be a current Project HOME resident

What You'll Do

Facilitate Creative Arts Programming

• Develop and teach weekly creative arts classes for Project HOME residents.
• Design lesson plans that build toward completed artistic projects and participant achievements.
• Create supply lists and assist with class planning and scheduling.
• Set up and prepare classroom materials before each session.
• Facilitate engaging, welcoming, and inclusive art experiences.
• Track attendance and complete post-class cleanup activities.

Support Art Exhibitions & Community Engagement

• Collaborate with the Art Program Coordinator to support public art exhibitions.
• Assist with the planning, preparation, and presentation of resident artwork.
• Contribute to exhibition curation and display efforts.
• Help showcase resident creativity and artistic accomplishments.

Promote Artist Development

• Encourage resident participation in art programming and creative opportunities.
• Assist residents in exploring community-based art events and vendor markets.
• Support artists interested in exhibiting or selling their work.
• Help create opportunities for residents to gain confidence and visibility through their artwork.

Build Community Through Art

• Foster a welcoming, respectful, and encouraging classroom environment.
• Promote creativity, collaboration, and self-expression among participants.
• Serve as a positive role model and community ambassador within Project HOME.

What You'll Need

Eligibility

• Must be a current Project HOME resident.

Education

One of the following is required:

• Associate's degree; or
• Two (2) years of equivalent experience.

Experience

• At least one (1) year of participation in formal coursework in Fine Arts, Art Education, Visual Arts, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to facilitate engaging and welcoming group activities.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with residents, staff, and community members.
• Passion for creativity, artistic expression, and community engagement.
