About the Role:
The Vet Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians by providing high-quality medical care to animals in a clinical setting. This position involves performing a variety of technical tasks such as collecting samples, administering medications, and assisting during surgical procedures to ensure the health and well-being of animal patients. The Vet Technician also educates pet owners on proper animal care, treatment plans, and preventive health measures, fostering a compassionate and informative environment. Working closely with the veterinary team, the Vet Technician helps maintain accurate medical records and ensures compliance with safety and sanitation protocols. Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program or equivalent education
- Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the state of employment, as required.
- Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common veterinary medical procedures.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with veterinarians, staff, and pet owners.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately in a clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting.
- Experience working in areas of anesthesia, dentistry, or emergency care.
- Familiarity with veterinary practice management software and electronic medical records.
- Additional training in animal behavior or rehabilitation techniques.
- CPR and first aid certification for animals.
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures by preparing equipment and restraining animals safely.
- Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, and urine for diagnostic testing.
- Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments to animals as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and record vital signs and patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns promptly to the veterinary team.
- Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, nutrition, and preventive health practices to support animal wellness.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments, treatment areas, and animal housing to ensure a safe environment.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper storage.
- Update and maintain detailed medical records and documentation in compliance with clinic policies and legal requirements.
