Job Description

Essential Functions:

Under the general direction of the Director or Athletic Communications or Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and in close coordination with the Associate Director of Athletics - Operations, the Public Address Announcer/Broadcaster assists with the engagement and communications of the respective sporting event:

PA Announcer: Responsible for the delivery of announcements at games/events, using a public address system. Announce starting lineups, in game/event action, promotions and other relevant information to the audience, ensuring a smooth and engaging game day atmosphere.

Broadcaster: Responsible for being the face/voice of the athletics department and all in-game/in-event content through video/radio/online platforms. Also responsible for writing scripts, conveying information, conducting interviews, operating equipment and ensuring a smooth pre-game, in-game and post-game atmosphere.

Both positions are involved in all aspects of gathering and disseminating sports information and/or statistics. This individual maintains regular contact with the University’s 20 NCAA athletic programs and coaches to provide information to the media, the campus and the public, and assists with the athletics website, video streaming and editing, social media and game day operations. Responsibilities include developing favorable media attention and image for the various sports teams, coaches and the athletic department utilizing a variety of communications media and other appropriate outlets. This could be a dual role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient and a working knowledge of and a willingness to comply with NCAA and Conference rules; excellent written and oral communications skills; experience with website content management system software and various statistics software; time management skills; knowledge of trends in sports communications, broadcasting and technology; strong knowledge of the rules of many different sports. Must be willing to work nights and weekends. Bachelor’s Degree or supplemental extensive experience in related field required.

Work hours vary upon sports schedules.
