Company Description

Green Mountain Surgery Center (GMSC) is Vermont’s first Multi-Specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center, established by a dedicated team of independent physicians and a visionary female leader. Located in a welcoming community, GMSC offers high-quality, cost-effective healthcare with a focus on personal and ethical care standards. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and professional environment for both patients and healthcare providers, ensuring continuity and excellence in care.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leader who thrives in a fast-paced ASC environment. This is not a corner-office role — it is a working manager position that puts you right in the middle of daily OR operations and staff development. Your primary focus is leading the clinical team; you will also serve as the eyes and ears in your area for quality, infection prevention, and supply chain, working closely alongside the management team, the Clinical Director and the Director of Operations who provide oversight and direction in those domains. If you love surgical nursing, thrive on operational excellence, and want genuine ownership over a high-performing surgical team, this is the opportunity for you.

What You'll Own

Clinical Leadership

• Provide day-to-day leadership, oversight, and support for all surgical services staff and clinical areas

• Collaborate with physicians and leadership on daily operations, patient care needs, and scheduling optimization to maximize OR efficiency and block time utilization

• Serve as a clinical resource for the OR — troubleshoot equipment issues and support staff with best-practice standards

• Maintain and update policies and procedures in alignment with current standards of care and regulatory requirements

• Ensure compliance with all applicable guidelines, regulations, and accreditation standards

• Oversee staffing — hiring, onboarding, scheduling, annual evaluations, and performance improvement plans

• Collaborate with other department leaders on patient grievance investigations and incident report follow-through

• Manage partnerships with lab, pathology, and anesthesia to ensure smooth department functioning and a seamless patient experience

Supporting Responsibilities — In Partnership with Clinical Director & Director of Operations

The following areas are supported by this role within your clinical area. You are not the primary owner — you serve as the on-the-floor monitor and communicator, working directly with the Clinical Director, Director of Operations and CEO who provide direction, oversight, and final decision-making authority.

Purchasing & Supply Chain

• Flag supply needs, equipment issues, and cost-saving opportunities to the procurement team

• Monitor day-to-day stock levels; communicate backordered, discontinued, or special-order items to the procurement team

• Support the standard process of comparing quotes and coordinate with billing on implant invoicing

• Maintain working relationships with vendors and BioMed reps; escalate service issues as needed to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager

Quality Assurance

• Monitor for and report complications, near-misses, and deviations in care outcomes within your area to the Clinical Director

• Participate in monthly complication reviews and support corrective action implementation as directed

Infection Prevention

• Serve as the point of contact in your area for infection reports; escalate findings to the Clinical Director

What We're Looking For

• Active RN license in Vermont

• Minimum 3–5 years of perioperative / OR nursing experience, ASC experience strongly preferred

• Prior leadership or charge nurse experience in a surgical setting

• CNOR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, and engage teams in financial stewardship

• Strong working knowledge of infection prevention principles and regulatory compliance (CMS, AAAHC, or JCAHO)

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — you can work with surgeons, vendors, staff, and patients with equal ease

• Comfortable being a working leader: you’re not above helping in the OR when the day demands it

Why Join Us

• Tight-knit, high-performing surgical team that takes pride in patient outcomes

• Direct impact on the day-to-day culture and efficiency of the ASC

• Competitive salary based on experience, plus annual Employee Profit Share Bonus

• Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and PTO

• Professional development support including continuing education and certification reimbursement

Predictable schedule — no nights, no weekends, no call (ASC hours)

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Family leave
  • Free parking
  • Health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid sick time
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Vision insurance
