Job Description
The Senior Geologist is responsible for prospect generation, regional mapping, business development, and asset planning. Specialties include field development, reservoir characterization, operational geology, geologic data integration, and horizontal well steering. The position can be located in the metropolitan areas of Denver, Houston, or Oklahoma City based upon the qualified candidate.
Requirements:• MidCon and/or STACK/MERGE/SCOOP experience
• Extensive reservoir characterization experience that combines geological, petrophysical, and engineering data to optimize development value
• Horizontal operational geology experience
• Track record of proactively finding previously unidentified value
• Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach economically optimum conclusions from field results and data collation
• Ability to create, drive, and execute development programs from initial concept through the execution phase
• Solid understanding of petroleum data and geological databases
• Knowledge of petroleum economic theory
• Track record of increasing team efficiency and overall quality of work through process improvement and automation of workflows
• Knowledgeable on industry activity and current development trends
• An achievement-oriented and highly motivated individual with great attention to detail that can prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
• Ability to establish respect, trust, and teamwork with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-disciplinary team, even when remotely located
• Expert proficiency in preparing and effectively delivering detailed technical presentations to co-workers, partners and management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Proficiency in Geographix (geology) is required and Kingdom (seismic) and StarSteer (geosteering) is highly preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Geologic interpretation and evaluation of clastic and carbonate depositional systems as related to new drilling prospect generation, operational support for development drilling and for Business Development support
• Create subsurface maps that include isopach maps, net maps, structural maps, cross sections, production data, etc.
• Facilitate petrophysical model improvements
• Aid in the interpretation of seismic data for operational and development optimization
• Support operational performance and facilitate efficiency improvements
• Comprehensively interpret data and risk and integrate into evaluations and prospect generation
• Conduct technical studies, detailed lookbacks, and high-value-of-information data acquisition plans for continuous performance improvement
• Participate in business development asset evaluations from inception to bid recommendation by integrating technical, economic and commercial analysis
• Utilize geologic characterization work to support leasing efforts and leasing recommendations
• Work efficiently to meet tight turnarounds and deadlines in a collaborative, multiple-project team environment spread across multiple office locations
• Prepare and deliver detailed recommendations, reports, and presentations to peers, management and/or large groups
• Frequently share best practices and participate in peer assist groups
• Willingness to mentor and develop other personnel
Education and Experience:
· Master’s Degree in Geology is required
· 10 or more years of related experience in Oil & Gas operations is required
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
· Able to travel for business, conferences, and to other office locations/field as needed (roughly once a quarter)
