Senior Technical Business Developer Grid Automation

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Technical Business Developer – Grid Automation based in the United States.

This senior commercial-technical role will drive the expansion of advanced grid automation solutions across the U.S. market.
You will combine deep power systems expertise with market development, customer engagement, and strategic growth initiatives.
The position plays a critical role in identifying new utility and industrial opportunities and translating customer needs into differentiated solutions.
You will serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the pre-sales journey, supporting architectures, protection systems, and integration strategies.
The role also provides an opportunity to influence emerging industry standards and interoperability frameworks through external technical organizations.
You will build strategic partnerships, represent the portfolio at industry events, and bring market intelligence back into product and solution development.

Accountabilities
  • Lead U.S. market growth initiatives by identifying new opportunities within utility and industrial automation markets and developing targeted market penetration strategies.
  • Drive product homologation and qualification efforts with key utility customers to expand adoption of grid automation solutions.
  • Serve as a technical subject-matter expert in grid automation, supporting customers and internal teams throughout the pre-sales and solution-development lifecycle.
  • Lead technical discussions around grid automation architectures, protection systems, digital substations, and integration workflows.
  • Translate customer requirements and market opportunities into technically viable and commercially compelling solution concepts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utilities, industrial customers, technology partners, and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Monitor market dynamics, customer needs, competitive developments, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for portfolio growth.
  • Represent the organization in relevant industry forums and technical working groups, contributing to the evolution of grid automation standards and interoperability frameworks.
  • Participate in industry associations and standards initiatives, including relevant IEEE and vPAC working groups, helping shape future approaches to grid automation.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that strengthen market reach, technology capabilities, and solution adoption.
  • Bring customer and field insights back to product and portfolio teams to inform the evolution of grid automation offerings and future innovation.
  • Support the development and market adoption of advanced grid technologies and connected solutions, including solutions involving substation monitoring, control, and automation.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to support customers, partners, industry events, and business development activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in technical business development, power systems, grid automation, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. utility market, including customer requirements, commercial dynamics, technical standards, and procurement or qualification processes.
  • Strong knowledge of grid automation technologies, digital substation architectures, protection systems, and power system integration.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and protocols, particularly IEEE standards and IEC 61850.
  • Knowledge of emerging grid technologies such as Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), Dynamic Line Rating (DLR), and network state estimation.
  • Experience combining technical expertise with business development, customer engagement, solution selling, or market expansion responsibilities.
  • Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models within the energy sector is preferred.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship-building, influencing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to identify market opportunities and convert customer and industry insights into actionable growth initiatives.
  • Self-directed and commercially oriented, with the ability to operate effectively in a remote and cross-functional environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 30%, including domestic and international travel.
Benefits
  • Base salary: $119,000–$190,400 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
  • Eligibility for a short-term incentive plan / annual performance bonus.
