Position Overview
The Human Resources Intern works alongside the Human Resources team to gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of HR while supporting programs, projects, and day-to-day activities. This position provides exposure to recruiting, onboarding, training and development, employee engagement, HR systems and reporting, employee records, and other HR initiatives.
The internship is designed to provide practical experience for a student interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources. In addition to working with the HR team, the intern will have opportunities to learn about Capitol Aggregates' cement and aggregate operations and gain an understanding of how Human Resources supports team members and leaders in both office and field environments.
What You'll Do
- Support the Human Resources team with day-to-day HR activities, projects, and administrative needs.
- Assist with recruiting activities, including job postings, candidate communication, interview scheduling, and recruiting events.
- Participate in career fairs, school partnerships, community outreach, and other recruiting activities.
- Assist with new hire onboarding and orientation, including preparing materials, coordinating activities, and supporting completion of required documentation.
- Assist with maintaining accurate and organized team member records and HR documentation.
- Support data entry, reporting, and updates within HR systems and spreadsheets.
- Assist with preparing HR reports, presentations, communications, and other materials.
- Support training and development initiatives by assisting with scheduling, materials, participation tracking, communications, and event logistics.
- Assist with team member engagement, recognition, culture, and other employee experience initiatives.
- Conduct research and gather information to support HR programs, projects, and process improvements.
- Participate in HR projects designed to improve processes, programs, and the team member experience.
- Gain exposure to different areas of Human Resources and how HR partners with leaders and team members across the business.
- Participate in visits to the cement plant and aggregate operations to gain a better understanding of the business, our team members, and the environments supported by Human Resources.
- Respond to routine team member questions and direct individuals to the appropriate HR team member when additional assistance is needed.
- Provide general administrative support, including preparing documents, scheduling meetings, organizing materials, and maintaining files.
- Maintain the confidentiality of team member, applicant, and Company information.
- Follow all Company policies, procedures, and applicable safety requirements.

Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
- Previous work, internship, customer service, or administrative experience is preferred but not required.
- Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with team members, candidates, leaders, and other business partners.
- Willingness to learn about multiple areas of Human Resources and participate in a variety of projects and assignments.
- Willingness and ability to periodically visit cement and aggregate operations to learn about the business and support HR activities.
- Ability to work in both a professional office environment and active industrial environments as needed.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting operational areas.
- Commitment to following all Company safety policies, procedures, and applicable site requirements.
