Our CNA Apprenticeship Program offers a unique, structured career pathway for individuals to enter and advance in the nursing field. Developed in partnership with Carteret Community College, this paid apprenticeship offers a flexible work/study schedule and covers program costs such as tuition, books, and uniforms.
The CNA Apprenticeship program is designed to guide students from an entry-level role through to CNA II certification. The program also provides a strong foundation for those who choose to pursue RN licensure, as well as other advanced healthcare degrees. Apprentices begin the program working as a Non-Clinical Observer(NCO), gaining valuable hands-on experience while completing required coursework. As students progress and successfully complete their CNA I and CNA II training, they transition into each role with increased responsibilities and corresponding pay increases.
The role of Non-Clinical Observer is responsible for monitoring one, or more, assigned patients on a designated unit for a specific time period. The key responsibility of the observer is to monitor the patient for safety. Additionally, staff in this role will assist with room turnover, emptying of trash, linen changes, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) restocking. The NCO will also assist with patient transport and support department staff as a resource delivering needed items between departments.Academic Standing: Students must pass all required coursework and remain in good academic standing at Carteret Community College.
Work Commitment: Must work a minimum of 12 hours per week in the Non-Clinical Observer / CNA Apprentice role. CHC will work with the student to coordinate a work schedule that accommodates class requirements and allows adequate time for learning and study. The apprentice will report to the Director of Nursing Clinical Excellence for scheduling, performance expectations, and ongoing support.
