INTRODUCTION
The BIM Lead is responsible for overseeing the development, coordination, and quality control of BIM models and construction drawings utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and related VDC software platforms. This role leads BIM coordination efforts; delegates work to BIM modelers and drafting staff and supports project execution from design coordination through fabrication and construction deliverables.
This position works closely with Engineering, VDC, Project Management, Fabrication, client teams, and other internal departments to ensure project requirements, coordination milestones, and company quality standards are achieved through successful project completion. The BIM Lead will also participate in client coordination meetings and assist in managing BIM scope throughout the lifecycle of projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and delegate work assignments to a team of BIM modelers and drafting staff.
- Manage BIM scope and coordination efforts by collaborating with clients, project teams, and internal departments through project completion.
- Participate in client coordination meetings and provide BIM-related project support and updates.
- Oversee the preparation, coordination, and modification of construction drawings and BIM models utilizing Revit and AutoCAD.
- Lead BIM coordination efforts for commercial construction projects involving MEP, Fire Protection, seismic bracing, and support systems.
- Develop and review 2D and 3D project deliverables consistent with company and project standards.
- Coordinate project information with Engineering, VDC, Project Management, and Fabrication teams.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and BIM models to support coordination and detailing activities.
- Support clash detection, constructability reviews, and model coordination utilizing Navisworks and related software platforms.
- Maintain organized project documentation, BIM standards, and digital project files
- Utilize software platforms including:
• Revit
• AutoCAD
• Navisworks
• Bluebeam
•Autodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma) - Support quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of BIM models and construction documents.
- Communicate project updates, coordination issues, scope changes, and scheduling impacts to internal and external project teams.
- Maintain productivity and time-entry reporting standards within company systems.
- Support and mentor junior BIM modelers and drafting personnel.
- Continuously developing technical knowledge related to BIM coordination, VDC workflows, construction detailing, and commercial construction practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree, drafting certificate, or related technical education preferred
- Minimum of 5-7 years of BIM modeling, drafting, detailing, or related commercial construction experience required
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience utilizing Revit in a BIM/VDC environment preferred
- Experience leading BIM coordination efforts and supporting project teams preferred
- Strong experience utilizing Revit and AutoCAD required
- Experience with Navisworks, BIM360, and Bluebeam preferred
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, BIM coordination workflows, and drafting standards
- Knowledge of commercial construction systems including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, seismic bracing, and structural support systems preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience or exposure to:
- Commercial construction and large-scale coordination projects
- MEP and/or Fire Protection systems
- Seismic bracing and support systems
- Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) workflows
- Client-facing BIM coordination responsibilities
