POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Cook at one of Oxford’s luxury or boutique-style hotels plays a key role in preparing high-quality meals while providing on-the-line leadership and guidance to the culinary team. This position supports menu execution, maintains consistency in food quality and presentation, and ensures a clean, efficient, and organized kitchen environment. Working closely with the Executive Chef and sous team, the Lead Cook plays a key role in striving to meet and exceed Four-Star service standards delivering high-quality service and amenities with strong attention to detail, ensuring excellence in every guest interaction, and consistently exceeding expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties and responsibilities of this position are to be performed with exceptional caring and genuine guest service upholding the Oxford Collection of hotels standards and culture at all times.

Food and Beverage Preparation (75%):

  • Cook, set up, and prepare food items for hotel food outlets in accordance with established recipes and brand standards
  • Ensure consistency in food quality, presentation, portion control, and temperature for all meal periods and service styles
  • Collaborate with chefs and culinary leadership in the execution and rollout of menu items, maintaining standards for preparation and plating
  • Support food service during banquet and private event functions, ensuring product quality and timely execution
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food and supplies, ensuring freshness and inventory control
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and safe kitchen environment by following all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including dishwashing duties when necessary
  • Regularly sanitize workstations and food-contact surfaces throughout the day
  • Promptly report maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor or General Manager
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations as well as Oxford Collection’s safety and emergency protocols

Perform all tasks in compliance with federal, state, local, food safety and sanitation requirements and Oxford Collection of hotels safety standards and security procedures. Be knowledgeable about and able to respond to emergency situations. Report any maintenance repairs needed immediately to their supervisor or General Manager.

Guest Relations (10%):

  • Always provide a high level of customer service, taking time with our guests to ensure every aspect of their stay is up to expectations
  • Communicate with front-of-house staff about guest needs, allergies, and changes to service
  • Assist in guest recovery efforts in the absence of a manager, using discretion and professionalism
  • Demonstrate active listening and responsiveness to concerns or feedback from both guests and colleagues
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all guest interactions.

Training & Development (10%)

  • Serve as a role model for kitchen staff, exemplifying Oxford’s service and quality standards
  • Provide on-the-job training and support to fellow cooks, reinforcing consistency and efficiency
  • Assist in training and rollout of new menu items, ensuring correct preparation and presentation
  • Help foster a respectful and collaborative kitchen environment focused on continuous improvement.

Other (5%):

  • Complete a daily activity log with pertinent shift information for co-workers and leadership team
  • Communicate effectively with all hotel staff to ensure smooth delivery of services
  • Coordinate with front desk, maintenance staff, Chef and Beverage Manager and General Manager on things requiring attention
  • Adhere to attendance policies and maintain regular availability for scheduled shifts
  • Other Hotel related duties as assigned

PREFFERED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 3+ years Previous culinary experience preferred
  • Food handler’s license and liquor server permits as required by state law (or ability to obtain)
  • Hospitality / hotel work experience preferred

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekends and holidays
  • Reliable and consistent attendance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently
  • Must be able to list 50 pounds occasionally and often exert up to 20 pounds of force to push, pull, carry, lift or otherwise move objects
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
  • While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat)
  • Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside in a variety of weather conditions
