About the Opportunity:

As a Systems Support Administrator, you will serve as a primary point of contact for IT at Codexis, providing hands-on support to employees and lab teams while helping administer and maintain our Windows, Microsoft 365, and IT infrastructure environments. You will independently troubleshoot a range of end-user, lab computing, cloud application, systems issues, and support day-to-day IT operations.

In this role you will be responsible for:

End-User and Helpdesk Support | 45%

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for IT support, independently diagnosing and resolving Tier 1-2 technical issues for Windows computers, mobile devices, Microsoft 365 applications, and LAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN connectivity, both in person and remotely.
  • Manage employee IT onboarding and offboarding activities, including user accounts, licenses, permissions, device setup, equipment return, and access changes.
  • Plan and complete computer upgrades, replacements, and refresh activities, including user data migration, system configuration, deployment, and user handoff.
  • Image, configure, and deploy Windows computers using Clonezilla, troubleshooting imaging and deployment issues and escalating more complex problems as appropriate.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot local and network printers, peripherals, and related end-user technology.
  • Set up and support conference room technology, including Microsoft Teams meetings and recording, and independently troubleshoot common audio, video, connectivity, and device issues.
  • Identify recurring end-user issues, investigate potential root causes, and recommend practical solutions or process improvements to improve the employee support experience.

Lab Computing Support | 25%

• Deploy and upgrade lab computers connected to scientific instruments, coordinating with lab staff to minimize research downtime.

• Install, configure, and troubleshoot lab label printers.

Microsoft 365 and Cloud Application Administration | 15%

• Manage Microsoft 365 users, licenses, security groups, distribution lists, and MFA.

• Manage SharePoint Online site permissions and resolve OneDrive for Business sync and storage issues.

• Review quarantined email and investigate reported phishing in Barracuda Email Security Gateway and Microsoft Defender for Office 365.

• Troubleshoot access and configuration issues across assigned Microsoft 365 and cloud applications and identify recurring issues that may require configuration or process improvements.

Systems Administration | 10%

• Maintain Windows Server services (AD DS, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy), hybrid identity with Microsoft Entra ID, and file, print, and application servers under the direction of senior engineers.

• Independently diagnose and resolve routine to moderately complex systems issues, using technical judgment to determine when escalation to senior engineers is appropriate.

Asset Management and Documentation | 5%

• Maintain the IT asset inventory, tracking hardware from purchase through deployment, reassignment, and retirement.

• Write and update knowledge base articles and runbooks for recurring issues.

Requirements:
  • The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field, plus 2-3 years of hands-on IT support experience or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive) for end users.
  • Experience imaging, deploying, and replacing Windows computers, including user data migration.
  • Experience creating and managing user accounts, groups, and password resets in Active Directory or the Microsoft 365 admin center.
  • Experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and VPN connectivity issues.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting local and network printers.
  • Experience working a ticket queue and documenting resolutions in a ticketing system.
  • Experience supporting non-technical users by phone, chat, and in person.
  • Availability for occasional after-hours or weekend work for maintenance windows and urgent issues.

  • Microsoft Intune device enrollment, app deployment, and compliance policies.

  • Windows Server administration (AD DS, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP).
  • PowerShell scripting to automate routine administrative tasks.
  • Supporting Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI productivity tools within approved governance policies.
  • Supporting scientific applications, lab instrument PCs, and label printers in a research environment.
