Description:

This position is responsible to lead the Tooling Technicians team in the planning, development, deployment and maintenance of Tooling Systems that when effectively executed will result in the achievement of organizational objectives. This position directs and coordinates the activities of toolroom, which consists of repairs on casting dies and trim dies. preventative maintenance of each, and tooling personnel.

Requirements:

  • Must support the die cast/trim and other services' effort to keep a continuous flow of high-quality castings throughout the plant.
  • Must promote a predictive, not reactive, maintenance philosophy by taking a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and quality.
  • Promote plant wide safety and manage housekeeping, and follow established guidelines for visual management.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to the Tooling Technician team.
  • Responsible for performance evaluation, disciplinary action, training and supervision of tooling department employees on all three shifts.
  • Carries out Supervisor responsibilities in the toolroom in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for interviewing potential candidates, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, performance appraisals, addressing complaints and resolving problems related to the toolroom.
  • Evaluates department procedures and work instructions, revising if needed, to ensure high efficiency, effectiveness and utilization as well as employee safety.
  • Responsible for determining the most efficient method of completing repairs of dies, tools, fixtures, cavities and gauges and responsible for scheduling PM's, routine service, and emergency repairs of tooling.
  • Assist tooling technicians as needed
  • Responsible for tracking Tooling Technicians participation in Apprenticeship program.

Academic Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency – preferred
  • Associate’s degree or 1-2 yrs. related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Prefer one to three years supervisory experience - broad background in manufacturing-working in tooling, CNC machining & die cast a preferred.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Computer literate to read, write, and reply to e-mail.
  • Ability to speak effectively with vendors and employees
  • Ability to train others in routine procedures.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Working with engineering or shift supervisor information, repair orders, repairs tools, dies and fixtures, or having benefit of given nature of various problems, shows the ability to analyze and evaluate what must be done to remedy the quality and production problems resulting from tools, dies and fixtures.
  • Determines, designs, and implements preventive corrections or maintenance programs.
  • Determines if repairs requested are appropriate/accurate; makes repairs to correct problems in a manner which will support production and not sacrifice quality.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to fill out reports and log books.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers, and vendors concerning tooling or repairs.
  • Ability to utilize computer Programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, PLEX, and Paylocity.
  • Ability to utilize 3D CAD software to review/analyze casting die/trim die assembly models.
