This role is a key regulatory leadership position focused on strengthening and scaling compliance frameworks within a fast-growing global payments organization. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to Canadian financial regulations while supporting the launch and expansion of complex fintech and payments products. Acting as a subject matter expert in AML/CTF and regulatory governance, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Risk, Operations, and Global Payments. The position involves managing regulatory relationships, supporting audits, and ensuring alignment with FINTRAC and Bank of Canada requirements. You will also contribute to the development of scalable compliance programs that enable innovation while maintaining strong regulatory controls. This is a high-impact, remote-first role in a global and highly regulated environment where compliance and product innovation go hand in hand.
- Monitor and interpret Canadian regulatory developments related to payments, fintech, MSB requirements, and consumer protection frameworks.
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of AML/CTF compliance programs, policies, and governance structures.
- Manage regulatory reporting processes, including EFTR and STR filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
- Act as the primary liaison with Canadian regulators, auditors, law enforcement, and external banking/payment partners.
- Support product and business teams in assessing regulatory requirements for new offerings, including licensing and exemption analysis.
- Oversee AML operations support activities such as sanctions screening, KYC, fraud monitoring, and transaction monitoring.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives including product launches, partner onboarding, and regulatory due diligence.
- Prepare executive-level reporting, presentations, and regulatory documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support global compliance initiatives and risk governance projects, including AI-driven AML/CTF and sanctions programs.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in compliance, AML/CTF, risk management, regulatory affairs, or financial services governance roles.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian financial regulations, including FINTRAC requirements and payments industry frameworks.
- Experience working in payments, banking, fintech, or regulated financial services environments.
- Proven ability to manage regulatory reporting, audits, and interactions with supervisory authorities.
- Strong understanding of AML programs, sanctions screening, KYC, and transaction monitoring processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging executive leadership.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to work across multiple concurrent regulatory initiatives.
- Experience preparing high-quality executive and regulatory documentation.
- Nice to have: familiarity with global payments systems, regulatory technology, or French (Canadian) language skills.
