Location: Valencia/Travel to Ventura manufacturing plan 1-2x per week
Position Summary
The Sr. Cost Accountant & Analyst is responsible for accurately accounting of inventory under standard costing, calculation of product cost and variances, preparation and analysis of production margins, assisting with month-end close, including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, assisting with the audit preparation and requests, performing other accounting duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting
- Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs for products and manufacturing processes.
- Calculate product costs, including direct materials, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead, purchase price, and production variances).
- Prepare monthly cost accounting journal entries and account reconciliations.
Inventory Accounting
- Maintain accurate inventory costing within the ERP system.
- Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Participate in physical inventories and cycle count programs.
- Analyze inventory reserves, excess and obsolete inventory, and inventory valuation.
- Ensure compliance with inventory accounting policies and internal controls.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Support month-end and year-end financial close activities
- Assist in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules
- Develop dashboards and reports that provide insight into manufacturing performance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of cost account experience with manufacturing is required.
- Public company and SOX experience
- ERP experience: JD Edwards, D365 or other similar ERP systems.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
- Strong proficiency in Excel and ERPs
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in work output
- Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
