This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Area Sales Manager - Midwest based in the United States.
The Area Sales Manager will own sales growth and customer development across a multi-state Midwest territory.
You’ll manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and qualification through technical solution development, quotations, orders, and account management.
The role combines consultative selling with technical expertise in motion-control technologies, including motors, drives, lead screws, and linear actuators.
You’ll build lasting relationships with customers while partnering closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other internal teams.
You’ll also identify new market opportunities, develop leads, support industry events, and contribute to territory forecasting and growth strategies.
This is a highly autonomous, customer-facing position suited to a proactive sales professional who enjoys solving technical challenges and driving results.
The role covers Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ontario, Canada, with frequent travel and occasional overnight stays.
Own and manage the complete sales process across the assigned territory, from prospecting and opportunity qualification through solution development, quotation, order acquisition, and ongoing account management.
Develop trusted customer relationships and serve as the primary point of contact, coordinating closely with manufacturing, quality, engineering, and other internal teams.
Identify customer needs and collaborate on technical solutions that support revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and business objectives.
Coordinate delivery changes, quality concerns, technical issue resolution, prototype development, and prototype scheduling to maintain strong customer relationships.
Manage all relevant interactions between customers and internal teams, ensuring issues, requests, and opportunities are addressed effectively.
Collaborate with local representatives and representative firms, where applicable, to facilitate sales activities and expand market coverage.
Execute sales and marketing development strategies by generating and qualifying leads, managing follow-ups, and representing the organization at trade shows and industry events.
Identify new business opportunities, emerging market needs, and potential applications for existing and new product platforms.
Maintain accurate written reporting on significant customer contacts, developments, opportunities, and territory activities.
Prepare and present quarterly business reviews for the assigned territory in accordance with established requirements.
Contribute to the annual sales forecasting process for the following fiscal year.
Operate with a high degree of independence while working under the direction of the Regional Sales Manager or designated leader.
Follow applicable company policies, standards, procedures, workplace expectations, and safety regulations.
Take on additional responsibilities and projects as required.
Must reside within the assigned territory, specifically Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, or Kentucky.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical or related field from an accredited educational institution.
At least 3 years of direct sales experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Working knowledge of the operating principles and applications of BLDC, brushed, and stepper motors, motor drives, lead screws, and linear actuators.
Strong understanding of general engineering concepts related to linear and rotary motion and power transfer.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and cost efficiency, including the ability to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
Proficiency with Windows-based PCs and Microsoft Office applications.
Fluency in spoken and written English, as well as the predominant language applicable to the assigned territory.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer-service mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships with customers, colleagues, representatives, and cross-functional teams.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, with demonstrated initiative and a strong drive for results.
Strong understanding of engineering and sales principles, supported by sound business judgment and a strong work ethic.
Willingness to work beyond standard office hours when customer or business needs require it.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently throughout the territory, including overnight stays as required.
Remote work within the assigned Midwest territory.
