Description:
  • Uphold the mission of Humane Animal Rescue throughout all responsibilities of the position.
  • Understand and support the Open-Door Philosophy of Humane Animal Rescue.
  • Maintain positive relationships with co-workers, managers, directors, clients, partners, and stakeholders; work closely with organizational partners such as the Center for Inclusion Health and ROOTS.
  • Staff both offsite and onsite free and low-cost veterinary clinics; drive the HARP MOVES mobile clinic to and from events.
  • Stay informed about other medical assistance programs through HARP and through other local organizations; educate clients on a wide array of pet ownership responsibilities; ensure that other departments have appropriate resources to offer clients.
  • Communicate with clients over the telephone and MOVES email, answer general questions in a timely fashion, schedule appointments, make reminder calls as needed, and check out clients after appointments.
  • Handle clients’ medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate; communicate common medical issues, necessary follow-up, and homecare instructions to clients.
  • Work with multiple departments to improve the client experience, safety, and volunteer support of low-cost and free clinics.
  • Understand common vaccinations and vaccination protocols; be able to explain them to clients.
  • Understand usage, dosage, and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs.
  • Properly log the usage of, and correctly handle, controlled substances.
  • Maintain full inventory of the HARP MOVES mobile clinic, informing appropriate staff when supplies need to be ordered; keep the vehicle clean and organized.
  • Enter medical records into software after events and keep physical records organized.
  • Collect data and track program statistics and spending.
  • Read and understand medical records from other facilities and use that information to determine next steps in proper care of the animal.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) year Veterinary Technician degree or equivalent/relevant experience strongly preferred
  • Existing Fear Free certification a plus (training will be provided if needed)
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to have difficult conversations with pet owners and maintain empathy and compassion.
  • Ability, experience, and willingness to respectfully work with diverse populations, including the ability to engage with and build trust among people living in under-resourced communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and organizations and maintain positive, cooperative relationships with co-workers and partners.
  • Ability to learn multiple record keeping software programs.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed and occasional evenings and holidays as scheduled.
  • Work requires lifting and carrying animals, pet supplies, and event materials (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting loads over 40 lbs.); walking or standing for extended periods of time; frequently working in a bent position.
  • A valid driver’s license and comfort with driving large vehicles with training
