This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior DevOps Modernization Consultant based in the United States.
This is an opportunity to lead complex mainframe modernization and source control migration initiatives within enterprise IBM z/OS environments.
You’ll combine deep DevOps expertise with hands-on experience across Endevor, DBB, Git, IDD, and modern SCM practices.
The role focuses on helping organizations transition legacy development and change-management processes toward modern, automated workflows.
You’ll work directly with technical teams and client stakeholders to design, implement, troubleshoot, and validate modernization solutions.
Your expertise will be instrumental in building reliable CI/CD pipelines, automating processes, and resolving issues throughout the application lifecycle.
Beyond technical delivery, you’ll provide training, presentations, and knowledge transfer to help teams successfully adopt new technologies and practices.
This role is well suited to an independent, customer-focused consultant who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and driving meaningful modernization outcomes.
- Lead and support mainframe modernization and software configuration management migration initiatives, including migrations from Endevor to DBB, Git, and IDD.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and support DBB, Git, IDD, and related technologies within IBM z/OS environments.
- Analyze, convert, validate, and troubleshoot Endevor applications and resolve issues associated with modernization and migration activities.
- Develop and maintain Groovy scripts, YAML configurations, Git repositories, branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Investigate failed builds and pipeline issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective technical resolutions.
- Support application development, systems programming, change management, and application lifecycle management activities.
- Collaborate closely with client stakeholders and technical teams to plan and execute successful modernization and migration projects.
- Deliver customer training, technical presentations, demonstrations, and knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Provide clear technical guidance and communicate complex modernization concepts to diverse audiences.
- Document migration procedures, technical resolutions, system configurations, best practices, and troubleshooting processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in DevOps practices, automation, source control, and modernization methodologies.
- Work effectively with distributed and global technical teams while maintaining ownership of assigned initiatives and deliverables.
- 8+ years of experience as a Systems Programmer, Application Developer, DevOps Engineer, or in a comparable technical role.
- Proven hands-on experience installing, configuring, supporting, and migrating solutions within IBM z/OS environments.
- Strong experience with IBM z/OS, Endevor, DBB, Git, IDD, SCM, and mainframe modernization technologies.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing, converting, and validating Endevor applications as part of SCM modernization initiatives.
- Strong Groovy scripting and YAML configuration skills.
- Hands-on Git experience, including repository management, branching strategies, and source control workflows.
- Experience troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines, debugging builds, performing problem determination, and resolving issues across the application lifecycle.
- Knowledge of application development, systems programming, change management, and DevOps practices.
- 4+ years of customer-facing consulting or technical client-support experience is preferred.
- Experience delivering technical training, presentations, demonstrations, and knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with global, distributed technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Expected base compensation of USD $75–$100 per hour.
