Experienced Generator Specialist Field Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Experienced Generator Specialist Field Engineer based in United States.

This role provides on-site technical leadership for turbine generator systems supporting utility and industrial power-generation facilities.
You’ll lead inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and outage activities involving complex generator equipment.
The position combines hands-on electrical expertise with project coordination, customer engagement, and technical leadership.
You’ll work with advanced inspection and diagnostic technologies to identify potential failures and ensure reliable equipment performance.
The role requires close collaboration with customers, engineering teams, field specialists, and project resources to deliver safe, high-quality results.
As a field-based specialist, you’ll work across diverse sites and environments, with extensive domestic and international travel.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and perform generator inspections, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities for turbine generator systems at customer sites.
  • Conduct advanced generator field and stator inspections using specialized technologies and equipment, including MAGIC inspection systems, EL-CID, capacitance mapping, tracer gas, vacuum and pressure decay testing, AC HIPOT testing, wedge tapping, ultrasonic testing, and related tools.
  • Direct repair and inspection procedures while leveraging electronic communications, technical references, engineering documentation, and reporting technologies.
  • Identify, predict, document, and communicate potential generator failures and quality issues to customers and relevant technical specialists.
  • Lead project execution for generator field and stator rewinds, general generator repairs, inspections, and other outage-related activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and project management throughout assignments, including planning, resource coordination, scheduling, tools, materials, and execution against contractual requirements.
  • Review plant engineering documentation, P&IDs, manufacturing drawings, schematics, and other technical materials to support troubleshooting and field execution.
  • Apply knowledge of power circuit breakers, protective relay systems, AC/DC motors and generators, programmable logic controllers, and basic electrical circuits to diagnose equipment issues.
  • Support pre-outage planning and recommend or administer appropriate policies, procedures, and technical approaches.
  • Support warranty administration and troubleshoot technical issues that arise during field assignments.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and participate in initiatives designed to achieve field safety and environmental objectives.
  • Communicate technical findings, project status, and quality information effectively with customers, headquarters, and internal stakeholders through established digital tools and systems.
  • Build productive customer relationships while addressing both technical and contractual matters.
  • Travel extensively throughout the United States and internationally and remain available for weekends, holidays, overtime, and other non-standard hours when required by project assignments.
Requirements:
  • Technical or university degree with relevant experience, or equivalent qualifying professional experience; alternatively, a high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of experience in a field services environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in oil & gas or power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power-generation equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience working with different types of turbine generator equipment and managing responsibilities at customer sites.
  • Proven ability to independently support outages and successful installations while knowing when and where to seek technical guidance.
  • Experience or training with major OEM equipment such as Alstom, Siemens, or comparable turbine generator systems is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, troubleshooting methods, and technical drawings, including P&IDs, manufacturing drawings, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with generator inspection, maintenance, repair, and testing methodologies, as well as relevant diagnostic technologies.
  • Working knowledge and practical application of environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities, with the ability to coordinate resources and execute work safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, technical teams, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to manage technical and contractual relationships professionally.
  • Sound business acumen and the ability to identify opportunities to support additional products or services.
  • Familiarity with quality-management principles, including Six Sigma methodologies and structured quality procedures, is preferred.
  • Ability to use company digital tools and systems for reporting, communication, documentation, and field-service administration.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in demanding field environments.
