Pharmacy Technician II in Kearney, Nebraska at Bryan Health

The Department of Pharmacy provides services including drug and disease state information, drug procuring, preparation, distribution, and therapeutic monitoring. Pharmaceutical care includes, but is not limited to, appropriate, accurate, and timely dispensing of medications to patients. Under the clinical supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II assists pharmacists in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution, and record keeping functions in the delivery of pharmaceutical supplies to patients in accordance department policies and guidelines.

Is proficient in all pharmacy technician staffing areas, such as unit dose/decentral/delivery staffing, medication tray stocking and maintenance, controlled substances, inventory maintenance, and sterile products preparation.

2. *Performs standard Pharmacy Technician I job functions related to Unit Dose medications, automated dispensing, medication drawers, and medication exchanges and deliveries.
3. *Operates automated packaging device to unit dose oral medication not available as unit dosed; troubleshoots and repairs device-packaging problems when not functioning properly.
4. Troubleshoots automated dispensing devices for medications on nursing units and in ancillary areas as needed.
5. *Utilizes software to generate labels for medication products to ensure proper barcode is present for administration by nursing.
6. *Operates pharmacy computer system to fill medication replacement orders and missing medication requests; accurately credits patient medication in pharmacy computer system as appropriate.
7. *Adheres to safety and security procedures to promote a safe and secure environment including adherence to state restrictions on Pharmacy Technician functions.
8. In coordination with Technician III and Technician IV pharmacy technicians, as well as pharmacy management, trains new staff in departmental processes and procedures.
9. Participates in departmental education and training programs as appropriate; attends Pharmacy staff meetings as scheduled per department guidelines.
10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
11. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum of one (1) year experience in an institutional pharmacy environment (hospital or health care facility with admitted patients) OR a retail pharmacy environment required. Registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Nebraska required. Pharmacy Technician Certification from a State of Nebraska approved certification agency required. Examples include: ptcb, ExCPT, UNMC (NE-CPhT).
