Field Safety Manager

Job Summary
The Safety Operations Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for environment, health, and safety (EHS) programs across multiple regional locations, field operations, and a large commercial vehicle fleet. This critical role ensures 100% regulatory compliance with OSHA, DOT, and NESC standards, while embedding a safety-first culture. The ideal candidate must be a resilient leader capable of deploying instantly to command centers during emergency storm response and power restoration events, managing severe operational risks in high-voltage environments
Key Responsibilities
• Utility & High-Voltage Compliance: Oversee field compliance with OSHA 1910.269, NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), and relevant state/federal regulations across all operating regions.
• Emergency & Storm Response Command: Mobilize and deploy to emergency storm command centers. Oversee field safety operations during rapid, high-hazard power restoration efforts under severe weather conditions.
• Fleet & DOT Safety Management: Partner with Fleet Logistics to manage the safety, compliance, and risk profiles of a multi-site vehicle fleet, including bucket trucks, line trucks, and commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) governed by FMCSA/DOT.
• Multi-Site Safety Oversight: Standardize safety procedures, hazard tracking, and EHS performance metrics across all regional office warehouses, physical locations, and temporary muster sites.
• Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Lead detailed investigations into vehicle accidents, near-misses, and electrical/field safety incidents using TapRooT, 5-Whys, or similar methodologies to implement definitive corrective actions.
• Field Audits & Safety Coaching: Conduct unannounced high-voltage and field safety audits, mentoring crews on standard work practices, PPE compliance (FR clothing, rubber goods), and dynamic risk assessments.
• EHS Training Delivery: Direct comprehensive technical safety training including regular utility updates, defensive driving, storm staging procedures, and annual compliance refreshes.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive safety management experience within electrical utilities, power line construction, or heavy utility infrastructure environments.
• Storm Response: Documented experience managing field safety during emergency storm logistics or large-scale utility restoration projects.
• Fleet Management Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of FMCSA regulations, commercial fleet safety, telematics, and DOT driver qualification files.
• Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) highly preferred. OSHA 30-Hour Construction card and current CPR/First Aid Instructor certification required.
• Availability: Ability to travel extensively across regional sites and work extended, non-traditional hours (24/7 environment) during active storm mobilization windows.
